Hello,
I"ve got a '98 Valkyrie C.  The previous owner has highway pegs mounted on the horizontal engine guard.  I'm taller and want to relocate them to the rounded vertical engine guard.  But it looks like the racket that is connected directly on the present configuration is too large for the vertical rounded gurard.  Can anyone tell me the proper size of the rounded bar?  I tried 1 1/4" and it was too big.  I feel foolish asking but, it's lookin like it 1".  Am I right there?  Also I think I would only have to order the brackets themselves cuz I already have the footrests. Thanks

The horizontal (fore to aft) part of the guard is 1" tubing, as is the rounded part. If you are mounting to the rounded part, the bracket will have to fit a slightly larger size, because of the curve adding to the effective diameter.

1 1/8" clamps is correct.  You may be able to get just the clamps (Kuryakyn quick clamps) and re-use your current pegs.

1 1/8" for the vertical/rounded parts and 1" for the horizontal/angled parts. I've tried both locations and just can't get a fit I like plus they just don't look right.

I have the Kuryakin Ergo Cruise peg mounts:

You can put the mount in a lot of places, and adjust the position to many positions. Choice of peg styles.

This is what I have. Probably have to zoom in to see them. They work well for me.

I have the Kuryakyn Ergo setup on one bike (4050s), and clamps and pegs on the 3/9 O'clock on the engine guards on the other bike.

The Ergo guards folded up are always inboard of a tip over or a fall and slide, and they have the very best clamps sold anywhere (you can stand on them and they won't move).  But I think they may be a bit short for the long legged rider; even my short leg knees are bent a little on them (comfortably).

The pegs on the guards allow me to stretch out more (though I can put my heels on the Ergo pegs to stretch out too).  But one of these pegs has a good chance of breaking off in a tip over or slide or just hitting the edge of the garage wall going in or out (one side only, but they only sell pairs).

I get off my hwy pegs in leaned-over twisty riding (and I fold them up), but if you stay on them, you have a better chance of dragging your boots on the engine guard mounts, than the Ergo mounts.  Which can really hurt your knee, as the boot is drug off the peg with hard force.

Inseam does matter. Mine is 30", and you can see I have mine mounted on the angled part of the bars. Mounting on the next part gives about 2-3" more, depending on the angle of the arm.
