Infamy and copycat syndrome by sick people.  All these incidences normalize the behavior in their sick minds and the media glorifies them.  Just today they were talking about how today's shooting almost makes him the winner in the most-killed contest.  Then they proceed to announce his name.  Just what the next sicko wants.

I agree with MarkT on the copycat and infamy syndrome.  I love the first Amendment, but it may be in everyone's interest these murderer's names are never mentioned.  I really don't know how they go about it, but just throw a bag over their head, through the trial and execution (there could be eye holes).

Beto O'Rourke (D-TX) was once a member of a hackers group. There's apparently no evidence that he ever broke into computers or did anything wild, but he was a member nonetheless.

But writing a fictional account when he was 15 about murdering a pair of children is another animal, entirely.
