The Duc Man and I are planning a ride to Yellowstone the first of August this year. He and Autumn ran "the million dollar highway" several times on their trip West and he also says it's a "must do" while we're out there. Man, I'm looking forward to it, you're pics of the area are amazing.

You'll love it Mike. It's your kind of road  :cooldude: Man I'm just glad to hear you're going out there. Yellowstone is on my to do list. So many destinations, so little time. And money.  :)
Silverton is just a little outa the way but well worth it. I think the place we had lunch was Grumpy's Bar and Grill. whatever the name of it is, it's next door to the Grand Imperial Hotel. If you have time, check out the lobby of the Grand Imperial. And thanks for the kind words on the pics.  :cooldude:

Take a coat! Talked to some guys in Sturgis last year and and the stayed over night there. They had to scrape ice and snow of there scoots in the morning.  :D Maybe our paths will cross in WY this year.

Good advice fudgie. In fact from our experiences riding in Colorado you need at least a medium jacket even in August. If you go into the mountains you will cross so many 10,000 to 12,0000 ft. passes you will need it.

Roadman

I was told about 45 years ago on a trip through that country that the monicker stems from the fact that they used tailings from the local gold and silver mines as back fill on some sections of the road when it was first built. Made sense at the time but I was under the influence when we discussed it.

Hey Ron
Great pics.  haven't been on her for a while.  Was out of town for a week and then the TRIKE KIT ARRIVED so I started on that and......we rode the "million dollar highway" last year and will be doing it again in May with three other couples from KS MO and AR.  We will be staying in Pagosa at our timeshare & making day trips.  Come see us if you are out this way.
