sounds great Daniel!  :cooldude:
now if I could have a little of your determination, I'd like to loose about 80lbs!  :P

Daniel Meyer

Okay, back to my trainer this morning...1st time in over a year...

So, what does two major surgeries, 16 weeks (4 months) out of the year with NO gym/strenuous exercise, the entire REST of a year on "light duty", and the massive amount of craptastic food pushed at us during the holidaze do for my fitness?

Well...I gained 20 pounds, lost 2 pounds of muscle...not good...but not as bad as it could have been.

I'm a bit ashamed of that...I *couldn't* do the really hard work...but I could have durn sure tightened up on my nutrition.

Ah well...still -167 off my peak...and only about 40 pounds from a lean 15% body fat.

Back to the grind!

Quote of the day...trainer had just given me my first "circuit"...a series of sets of exercises to be done in a loop for so many rounds...

1) Close grip bench press, max you can handle for 6 reps.
2) Deadlift. 255 pounds, 6 reps. (gack!)
3) 2 minutes max output on the rower. (that thing will take all you have to give and laugh at ya)
4) Rest 2 minutes. (only two!!?)

Repeat 6 rounds. That is a wicked, taxing circuit...

Me: "Oh, so now you're just trying to kill me."
Him: "I don't think I can..."

It boils down to this...

... you have discipline.

I was recently exposed to an idea about the difference between discipline (a thing
you do) and motivation (a way you feel).

I just never applied it to myself...always to doing for others...whether that was family, friends, or to the job...

WOW,  am truly impresses, GREAT JOB!   :cooldude:

What do you do with all the old clothes donate to goodwill?

You must be going broke buying new clothes every few months?   ;D

I still have my size 36/38 inch waist pants from decades ago am 42/44 now, just in case I get motivated and the time enough to take say 60lbs. away.

Well, not really. I only have two pair of jeans and about 5 shirts in my closet....got the jeans for the most part at the thrift stores...good selection in smaller sizes...seems everybody's getting bigger :)

I plan on "upping" my game when I get size/etc settled out.

I have come to the conclusion that few businesses, regardless of their rhetoric, really care about their workers. It's rather sad to feel that you've been under a false illusion for decades.  :-[

That is tough to read, let alone go through. My thoughts are to "Be Patient", don't lose your temper in any way shape or form with management; discuss your situation with everyone in management that will listen and see if they do the right thing.  Be optimistic.

You are a very good writer with have exceptional creative skills.  I am quite sure that comes through in your work, and people notice.  Be optimistic.

Wow!  It amazes me how poorly the medical insurance companies meet the needs of it's customers.  Personally, I'm all for abolishing it and paying cash.

Daniel, I must say I am impressed with you determination and dedication to achieving your goals.  I was just curious, with the skin reduction surgery, how many additional lbs will be lost via the reduction?  You have already done an incredible job.  Best of luck with the next step.

Too old? Too late? Too much? Too far? Impossible feat?

When they tell ya that just grin and do it anyway.

Go for, you need to get rid of that extra skin.  PEROID.

12 years ago, one of my co-workers lost a bunch of weight (tummy tuck).   She had to have the extra hide removed.  Our Gov Insurance covered it.   Looked like a new person, hardly recognized her after the weight loss.  Two years later when I retired, she had lost even more weight mostly to do exercise and eating reduction.

I'm glad you decided to go for it.  I think you will be glad, despite the scars to your body and your bank account.

As far as your employer goes, you may have provided too much information.  In my experience, legally, you don't have to provide them with your medical diagnoses or reason that you need the time off.  You should only have to provide medical documentation of the need for the required time off.  You might try going the FMLA route, the forms clearly state without giving specific medical information.  Legally, they can't deny FMLA, nor deny you use of accrued paid sick leave to cover FMLA absence.

You can't do much about the length of your life, so focus on the width.

Funny thing is...because of the "school of hard knocks" I've attended too many times...there will be substantial existing scarring that is removed during this...for an actual net loss LOL!

I figure I'll just tell folks, "Yeah these were all over here, but I got tired of them and had 'em moved to where they are now.

It's a couple different things wrapped into one outsourced vendor. I'm vested in a benefit that's supposed to cover 1000 hours of salary if a doc says you can't work. That's NOT FMLA and requires cause, diagnoses, etc...it didn't used to matter WHY as long as you weren't able to preform your job you were covered. That's the part they're getting me on...as they have modified the benefit to where they get to determine if WHY is a noble enough reason.

And...to make it interesting, it's administered by the same company that administers FMLA leave...so by the time you may choose to look that way, you've already provided all the information about your condition that they're not supposed to have.

Not really looking for FMLA leave anyway... I'm on salary in Texas and a 35 year employee. I don't do "unpaid".

I already had the timeslot approved by my boss before I started anything, and have accrued enough "other" leave to cover it...I'm just very disappointed that the first reaction of corporate was to circle the wagons, put a bureaucratic roadblock in my way, and cheat me out of a benefit I earned more than 35 years ago.

I am not real familiar with the FMLA . I thought it was just a guarantee of time off for a certain amount of unpaid leave without the threat of losing your job ? I think my employer requires a doctor's note for paid sick leave over 3 days. I think I will becoming more familiar soon. I've got a hand that might need some surgery.  >:(

FMLA is not only unpaid leave. You can use sick or vacation time you have accrued.

FMLA does not have to be unpaid.  FMLA guarantees you the time off.  Most employers allow you to use your accrued sick leave or vacation leave, so you can be paid.  If you don't have any accrued leave, then FMLA is unpaid.  Some employers make you use your leave, until you're out.
