Yuasa battery question

Do these yuasa batteries need charge after putting the acid tubes and being sealed or just direct install? Thank you in advance

Batteries should be charged before putting into service.

The instructions that come with the battery specify the rate and time needed for the initial charge.  A battery tender is not sufficient to do the initial charge.  Don't charge at too high of a rate either.

The first charge will affect the long term functionality of your battery.  I recommend letting the battery cool before the first charge...the acid activation generates heat and hydrogen gas.

I use a 1 amp charger for about 8 hours or tad bit longer.  Just a guess but could go longer say 12 hours but say 1.5 to 2 amp charger no need to go that long IMO.    I once long, long ago made the mistake of just charging up say an older cycle battery with a 10 amp charger for a few hours and fried that battery was boiling inside could hear the acid just bubbling making noises and battery was VERY HOT to the touch, not good. 

Last time I sealed the holes after installing acid on new Yuasa battery before charging on my 1 amp charger.  What is the negative effect of closing the fill holes BEFORE 1st charge?  Is it that big of a deal?

Brand new acid, brand new lead plates, first charge (energizing chemical energy) is the most important one a battery ever gets, and is bubbling away (and creating plenty of gas) on that charge, even at low amps if you do it for the recommended time.  You go in your garage or shed right when it's done, you'll smell it.  

Even with the vent line, sealing it up for the first charge could result in an explosion.  That's why the directions tell you not to plug up before first charge.  The Yuasa is called a sealed battery, meaning once that strip plug is stabbed in there tight, it's really never supposed to be removed again.  It can be done, but it may leak thereafter.

I had a car battery explode in my face once (at my first gas station job).   In 2.5 seconds, I climbed into a big sink backwards and turned both faucets on full on my face, and held my eyes open with my fingers, for a while.  No burns at all on me (but my shirt and pants took a hit).  Scared the hell out of me.

I believe my Yuasa with the same procedure said to use 1.75 amp charge rate thus I eventually used my 2 amp setting for 8 hrs. Tender's Do Not Work as I found out from my experience.

This may be a stupid question. Because. I am stupid. Why did you go with an acid battery? Instead of a AGM battery? I do not remember having to add acid to any AGM battery that I have bought. No vent tube. Correct me if I am wrong.

The standard Yuasa Battery for Valkyrie is called an AGM (maintenance free) battery.

That's after it comes dry (for long term storage, like in my basement where there's always one waiting), but you add the acid and initial charge.  After that, it's maintenance free.

That's close to what I do for the initial charge.  I'm thinking the last time I charged for almost 10 hours at the 2A setting.  I bought the higher performance (YTX14H-BS) 240CCA version of the Yuasa battery vs. the maintenance free YTX14-BS 200CCA standard battery.

I've found over the years that after adding the acid to let the battery sit and cool to room temperature before putting it on the charger.  This allows time for the chemistry to finish.  It's not typically a rush to get the battery installed.

This large manual analog charger is very useful for initial charge, as well as desulfating drained batteries, and jump starting.  If I need to charge for longer than the onboard timer, I just set it to HOLD ON and set an alarm to remind me.
