A really good video on spark plugs and goes all the way to the modern computer controlled ignition systems. I did not realize that they were actually using the spark plugs as knock detection and how misfires were registered in the engine computer, this video explains it.

VERY interesting. Far as that statement at the end I'm thinkin battery technology Still has a LONG way to go Before it replaces the internal combustion engine. Range is What is keeping the electric cage from takin over. Call it 550 miles from my casa to my Brothers casa. 11-12 hrs in my current cage. What-2  3  charges with current battery tech? I only need one fuel stop from here to there now. 5-10 mins and back on da road. Oh well-most likely NOT in my lifetime. RIDE SAFE.

550 miles from your place to your brother's ? I have a 2000 VW diesel Beetle that can make that without adding fuel - still have at least 50 miles and usually more like 100 -150 miles left ( yes - 700 mile tank range is possible with this car).

The VW diesel gets great mileage around 45 mpg is fast has good acceleration and has low maintenance and still has long life, something most electric cars cannot say. 9 seconds 0 to 60 and you can work on them so they do it faster, along with 45 mpg, not bad.

My Mercedes diesel has 200k low maintenance great mileage at around 40 mpg highway is a sedan.

If you compare electrics and gas right now the gas actually has the edge on conservation not the electric. No matter what, electricity is still produced by some other means, coal, nuclear, gas being the most common, they all take resources but this does not figure into the equation on electric car proponents.

The US is a oil exporter something that was predicted long ago and something this country has above most other countries, resources. That being said the trick is not to get fleeced by corporations taking advantage of those same resources and the hype of electric. Nothing is wrong with conservation but at the cost of the quality of living or jobs is not the answer since there is no crisis looming in the future on this front.

Yep - mine has some "enhancements" so it's producing about 170% of stock, some mechanical, most of it software. And it is still a very acceptable daily driver, even with 371,000 miles on it. It will spin the drive wheels in reverse, 1st AND 2nd gears - on dry pavement ! I have to be easy on it (not give it too much throttle) when it's slick outside, but it still putt-putts for that just fine. And it's really not too bad on smoke unless I'm really romping the throttle (above 4000 - 4500 RPM).
