No power to the bike (No Juice)

1997 Valk. Standard

Rode the bike 4 weeks ago.  Ran fine.  Put it away and hooked it up the the trickle charger.

Charger has been on (green light) for all 4 weeks.

Got her out today.  NO JUICE.  When I turn the key, NOTHING.  No inst. lights no nothing.

Checked the battery.  It shows 12.16.  That should be enough to turn her over or at least show some dash lights.   NOTHING.

Checked and cleaned the battery terminals.  NOTHING.

Battery is 1 1/2 years old and does check 12.16 power. 

Put her back in the garage and hooked up the trickle charge.  It came on right away.

I got out the HD Fat Boy so I could ride today.

First time I have every had to go to a backup for the Valk.  Very sad day.

Suggestions?  ie:  HELP!!

Is the kill switch in "kill". If not:

Jump it to your car to verify good or bad battery.

If still no power with car battery. Check ground then starting solenoid

Also try cycling the kill switch s whole bunch of times

I would check the red connector on top of the starter relay behind the right side cover. Connections get corroded and HOT causing problems.

Always the 2nd thing to do.

The 1st is check all your safety switches. Clutch, side stand, kill, and ignition. Bike verified in neutral, free rolling.

He has no power, instrument lights or anything. This usually points to very corroded or loose battery cables, burned up red connector on starter relay, or the ignition switch.

I had this problem just about a week ago, battery read 12.60 enough to light everything up and start, but it didn't.  After checking all connections and fuses same results.  I turned the key on and then checked the battery and it only read 1.20 indicating a short in the battery itself.  Replaced the battery and started right up.

IF the ground is still to the engine block and Has Not been cleaned in awhile! RIDE SAFE.

You got it!

I remembered that 2 years ago that happened to my 1800 Goldwing.

Too bad as the battery was only a  year and a half old.

Sure glad that was all it was.
