I've seen alot of people that thought they were cool , but then again Lord I've seen alot of fools.

Never heard of him-so no thoughts about this.

Evidently ! Pretty innocuous statement in my opinion. Kind of dumb, but innocuous. Hell, I don't buy the poppies either !

The Gutless Clowns at Sports Net caved to the SJW's...No Balls .
Hockey Fans are not Sensitive "you hurt my feelings" Pinheads. They Ignore the Politically Correct Krap.
Cherry was the head coach of the Boston Bruins '74-'80. Also a brash no holds barred free speaking commentator on CBC's Hockey Night In Canada. The sensitive types complained a lot about his harsh attitude instead of changing channels like they should have done. Trump Fans would love this guy.

The same people who got offended by Cherry's comments voted for a guy who wore blackface more times than he can remember.

I'd just read about this, evidently this guy made hockey the successful sports business that it is today, and was excised from it for saying the horrible hideous quote below:

"You people love — they come here, whatever it is — you love our way of life, you love our milk and honey. The least you could pay is a couple of bucks for a poppy or something like that. These guys pay for your way of life that you enjoy in Canada. These guys pay the biggest price."

Freaking ridiculous.

(Here in the Republic we were really into Hockey in 1999, not so much before or after...)

Kali is spoiled rotten, her first, and thus far only, NHL game she got to ride around in the Zamboni between periods:

I had a good time too...

I also had to look this up.  He seems like an icon of Canadian hockey.

Not only were his comments mild beyond compare, they were also entirely true.

I also had to look up SJW (social justice warrior).

You Canucks (used with love) are so nice.. I've always just called SJWs cork soakers.

Grapes?  Fired? :'(  The guy is crazy, funny, controversial, irreverent, a genius, a goat, hired, fired, dresses dapper, dresses tacky, knows hockey, and doesn't give a freshly dropped, moistened, horseturd what anyone thinks aboout him!  Best suits worn on and off the bench of any hockey coach ever.
THIS! IS DON CHERRY: https://torontolife.com/city/toronto-sports/don-cherrys-most-bizarre-blazers-of-the-season-ranked-in-order-of-craziness/
He used to do a show in Boston with his bull terrier (Blue) who was more popular than Don (better lookin' too).

I love the guy, I hate the guy...old time hockey...drop the gloves...be a man! >:(
There is no neutral zone with Grapes.

He is a treasure of Canada and a vanishing breed in the world of hockey; thinks most European/Russian/Scandinavian players are sissies (he's right) and should be carrying purses on ice (except for those he likes).  We had him for one season with the original Colorado Rockies and he put 3,000 people in the arena every night...just to watch what he would do and what he would wear.  The Rockies were doormats, but Grapes was exceptional at coaching their ineptitude.

Hockey Night in Canada's Coach's Corner will not be the same without him.
The fans love him, the players love him; the owners hate him. ???
The backlash is that there is gonna be an insurrection against CBC in the nether towns and regions of the country where he is revered.

Dude is a character, I'll give him that.

I feel sorry for the young kids coming up that will never be exposed to guys like Don Cherry due to the intolerant SJWs of today.

My theory on this is similar to my theory on weak immune systems.  Little kids that are not allowed to get dirty and play in the mud, take risks and learn from their mistakes will have weak immune systems and will be reluctant to step outside the box.

Good for Kali, looks like another memory she'll treasure forever!

(Dang! I may have to start watching Hockey...)

I think he dropped a bundle on Fabric Land and his Personal Taylor. Prolly a few folks missing their Drapes as well.

It wouldn't surprise me if he has one person on staff whose job description includes sourcing new and "interesting" fabrics.  Maybe the same person dressed Mimi from the Drew Carey show and/or Penelope from Criminal Minds.  I'm not sure if that person needed to be, or couldn't be, colour-blind.

He's clearly out of my league, as I do most of my clothes shopping at Old Navy and Costco, and have about 15-20 pairs of identical (other than being in various states of wear), blue, Happy Foot socks.

Don's words to follow, not mine:

And the legendary star of Coach's Corner says he will not walk back what he said on Saturday.

"I have just learned I've been fired by Sportsnet for comments made on Coach's Corner Nov. 9," Cherry told me in a phone interview. "No problem."

Cherry added: "I know what I said and I meant it. Everybody in Canada should wear a poppy to honour our fallen soldiers."

Cherry insisted he was just expressing how he feels about the lack of people donning poppies.

"I speak the truth and I walk the walk," he said. "I have visited the bases of the troops, been to Afghanistan with our brave soldiers at Christmas, been to cemeteries of our fallen around the world and honoured our fallen troops on Coach's Corner."

And it has been an honour to back the fighting men and women in uniform, he added.

Cherry said he would change none of it.

"To keep my job, I cannot be turned into a tamed robot," said Cherry.

Still, he admits, being fired on Remembrance Day does hurt "because I would have liked to continue doing Coach's Corner. The problem is if I have to watch everything I say, it isn't Coach's Corner."

My words: I can respect that, I don't agree with it fully, but he has the freedom to express his opinion. :

"Grapes"-unforgettable hockey name.  Now, back to the game... Go Habs, Go!

Few people here in Colorado seem to remember that there was a Rockies NHL team long before the Rockies MLB or Avalanche NHL teams ever existed.  The Colorado Rockies played here from 1976 through 1982, after which they were purchased and moved to NJ and renamed the Devils.  They were a terrible team and never had a .500 season in spite of having a few good players like Barry Beck and Lanny McDonald.  But I went to several games anyway during the year during the year Don Cherry coached.  Their advertising that year included the slogan 'Come to the fights and watch a Rockies game break out!'
