Apparently another dead end.

Sent an email a few days ago asking about the bike....does he still have it, lowest $$ he'd take, would he be OK with somone local coming to ck. it out. Just the usual questions, no response thus far. Since this is the second inquiry I've not rec'd. a response from a seller, guess I'm getting a message that this isn't the time for me to be shopping. Give it a couple more days then write it off.  :-\

Yes, I know that but just wanted to give him a chance to tell where he stood on that issue. If I came in with a lowball I might be willing to pay, in the past it has PO'd a seller to the point of cutting off communication completely. If this seller thinks his bike as is might be worth at least $2k, then I'm done. If I offered half that he may well take it as an insult. That's why I dislike "best offer" ads. The way this one is worded there's a couple things that makes me question it to begin with but thought I'd at least try to make contact for more info. Just don't want to dip into savings if I don't have to, guess I'll move on.

John,

I reckon I'm going to be forced to... ummmm, I dunno... Maybe I'll just take a leave-of-absence from the board or something... It is quite sobering when the light bulb over our heads suddenly illuminates, and stark, obvious fact informs us we're simply and totally out of touch.

I'd no sooner read Gig's post about 'Ozzie' (actually he'd spelled it Ozzy), than I clicked on yours. I'd embarked upon that journey of enlightenment with a pre-conceived notion we'd be discussing one of the tragic post-surgical aspects I've lamentably discovered from my recent surgery, and I fully expected to learn you'd had a similar let-down... misery does indeed love company! So, now you know of at least one more 'dead-end'... apparently of a different sort. Dang it all, I do miss it, too...

Bruce...understand, and to date have had no inclination to test such. Simply a bit too soon on two fronts(no pun intended)....Rita's passing and my most recent medical adventure. Not being one to venture outside the ring of matrimony, I doubt it will ever be put to the test.  ;)

Regarding this bike, ad and communicating with the seller.
I see "Best Offer" as to be something only to the seller's advantage but, that's okay.   He knows what his minimum sale price is, I know what my range for purchase is.   I don't like to low ball nor do I like it when I get low balled but, we have to start somewhere.   I assume he put an asking price then stated "Best Offer".    One can scan Craigslist and other sale medias and determine a fair value offer.   If the seller perceives a communication to be a fishing expedition, then one can understand why you didn't get a response.  Most of us have been in this game long enough to have a fair idea on the value of Valkyries.    IMHO, most pricing is more determined by the "Sparkles and Bling" installed on the bike.   That stuff ain't cheap.   Base model Valkyries without "Sparkles and Bling" can be bought pretty cheap.   It's when we want something special that the price goes up.

My advice would be to make an offer along with your other conditions.   If you don't get a response from that, it's either a scam or, your offer wasn't worth responding to.   Either way, it's worth one more try.

When I first got my Valkyrie, it had a OEM CB on it. I put the CB
on the classifieds  with a "best offer" price, because I
was clueless as to its value, it was a piece of junk to me. It
ended up being worth several hundreds of dollars...

Offers started flowing in right away, but a thread also started
about how most people on the board (at that time) didn't like
"best offer" ads.

So... I kind of understand wanting an asking price and I also
understand not knowing how to set one...
