Just got back in from "lair" after adding a aluminium/fiberglass blanket to the inside of the alternator cover. These are notoriously known to have the chrome plating to peel and bubble as mine did. Fortunately I was able to score a new one here for a very good price. It seemed to be a thought by some that heat from the alt. might contribute to the problem. So I found a square foot off Amazon for $10. Turned out pretty good just hoping the adhesive holds up to its 850 degree rating.

The emperor has no clothes

I bubbled a couple of them before putting that heat tape on mine. Still looks good 35k later.  :cooldude:

Dripping gasoline on the cover when removing the tank can damage it as well.
