E-Bay vs Honda oem outlet

What am I missing here?  Valk radiator side covers for sale on E- Bay for 55 to 85 dollars (a bargain?) and then I look them up on an oem fiche and it says they are 26 dollars each.  Is there something about the E-Bay ones Im missing?

Sometimes one might buy on e-bay and feel they are getting a bargain. They don't compare the used price or the price period with that of the OEM price. Just as some of the guys on  the classifieds seld items at prices far above what they are worth and that is there option to do so, it's their item. I perfer to compare or at least check the price with that of a new one and then make a decision. I would not  believe the e-bay item are better, new or used. My .02 worth.

If I'm looking for something, I first look at a manufacturer's source every time. A good example is the engine guards for the I/S, which I needed to mount the radiator pods on. I checked numerous sources for used ones and all wanted well in excess of what brand new ones cost from Service Honda in Indiana. In fact one guy flat out called me a liar, told me I said that only to get him to drop his price. So just for pure meanness, I sent him an email with the price quote I got. He then had some additional "kind" words for me. In another case re. the Uni-go trailer, I can get a brand new one for around $2400, depending on the options I decide on. I've bid a few times on the same item on ebay but cut it off at under $2000, yet I've seen them go for more than a new one direct from the factory in Ohio....including shipping.

Like the comedian Ron White has said...."you can't fix stupid."

Some get caught up in the moment of the "auction", or get sucked in by having to "win"......    However, sometimes those items just are not to be had (some aftermarket stuff) and the auction goes to the highest bidder.....

i was at an aution several years ago and there was a 20" grizzley wood planer up for aution.  the guy had all the original paperwork with it, even the original reciet of $1100.00, the price he paid for it ten years earlier.  at the time i was pricing them out and you could get a new one for $1200.  would you believe that ten year old, well used planer went for $1500 !!  i couldn't believe it!  when i was leaving the auction, going up to pay for my black walnut lumber i bought, i was in line with the guy that bought it, and i didn't know it was him.  i asked him, "did you see the idiot that bought that wood planer?"  he said, "yep.  i did"  then i told him that the original reciet was in the paper work for $1100, he didn't know that, of course i didn't know until after he got up to pay that he bought it!!

man i felt sorry for him, but i did laugh!

This is so true. You really have to know the value of the item you're going to bid on and then set a top price for your self. Otherwise, you will fall into the "Got To Win" scenario and wind up paying much more than the item is worth.

I rarely bid on Ebay now. Or,, should I say, rarely win a bid. lol

So, are you saying the IS saddlebags, with mounting hardware, chrome scuff guards, and OEM Honda saddlebag guardrails, all in good condition, that I got for $325 on ebay, made me a fool?

You need to know what things are worth.  A blanket statement that if you buy at an auction, you are a fool, is foolish!  LOL

The one item that always makes me scratch my head is the used chrome alternator covers. You can buy a new one for $35 and the used ones go for $50+.  Yeesh!

Alright, here's a perfect example on eBay.

I'm watching some foot pegs that a guy has for sale.  There are about 20 other "buy it now" sales going on and the auction I'm watching has $16 shipping and handling.  I figure that if the price gets up to $65, for a bid, I'd be better off getting one of the "buy it now's" with free shipping for about the same price as the auction.   

You could go to a cycle shop and pay $103, but I figure the money I would spend in gas would easily cover the shipping cost.

I'll let you know what it sells for, chances are, and they will sell for more then one of the "buy it now's".....  I've just got this feeling they will!!
