My odometer read out has been damaged and can't read anything in it. QA. Can I replace just that gauge or do I need to replace the whole gauge cluster? It a 99  interstate
Thanks for any help Flatt6

The whole cluster Is soldered together. The lens can be removed and replaced but not the individual parts.
But you can try. A used speedometer cluster would be a better decision, keep in mind the odometer cant be turned back.

Electrical is my worst subject, but you might want to try and get in the fairing and just look at all the wiring on the off-chance you spot some obvious corrosion or loose wire, before doing a swap.

I believe the fairing can be unhooked on top and swung out on top without having to take the whole thing off.

Also, the dash button that switches between the two trip meters and the odometer may be the problem.

Just had my cluster out while doing the amp install...I was thinking of changing the warning and turn signal bulbs to brighter leds so they would be easier to see in bright sunlight.  Come to find out that the bulbs as well as the displays are all a circuit board assembly and therefore not serviceable...the backlight bulbs and the lens cover are the only serviceable parts of the cluster...Ive seen used clusters online but i haven't seen new or remanufactured clusters available...hope you find the info helpful :)

Mine has 36k on it.... I have found  parts only that has 45k on it.....I used to solder alot before so I hope it works.... waiting on parts to arrive.....I'll update as soon as I try it out
Thanks

So I got the part yesterday and tore it apart. The  tachometer and center LCD will come off by removing screws..... unfortunately the odometer is soldered in at one spot so I will be trying to remove it in the next few days.

QUESTION I should have looked at this yesterday. Is the speedometer working? Reason I asked is I had to replace a broken drive unit. The little boxy thing on the lower left fork leg. And found out from my Friend atticrat those drive units should be lubed when the rear end is serviced. Got a bit over 112000 before it broke but lube is Still a good idea. If you do need a speedometer drive unit do NOT cheap out and look for a used one-buy new. O K good luck there. RIDE SAFE.
Today is the tommorow you worried about yesterday. If at first you don't succeed screw it-save it for nite check.  1964  1968 U S Navy. Two cruises off Nam.

So finial update........IT IS POSSIBLE TO REMOVE ONLY THE SPEEDO/ODOM COMBINATION. ..... ALSO THE ODOMETER READING IS MAINTAINED IN THE CENTER LCD DISPLAY so replacing just the Guage will NOT mess up your odometer reading. ...... that is where the computer/memory is... I hope this helpful to others.  :cooldude:
