Board Integrity

I am not an admin person and post this merely as a reminder that this is a Technical Board for discussions on the technical/mechanical aspects of the Valkyrie. Since we have moved to this new format and may have many new users this could become a problem in the future if we don't keep general discussions on the general board. At one time I used to only frequent the Tech board and did not understand why posts such as this one was ever made. But after becoming a regular visitor of both the General board and the Tech board  it becomes more clear why it would be better to keep the two topics on separate boards. I hope this offends no one and that I helped clarify an issue rather that to confuse the issue. :coolsmiley:

Doesn't this post belong on the "General" board???????????   lol

My only point in the post is to raise some awareness of a potential "problem" if you can call it that. I assume there is a reason for a general board and a tech board. In the past sometimes someone would reply
"this belongs on the general board" which is sort of in your face. I am not going to be a board policeman as I'm sure everyone here can make there own decision as to where to make a posting. I've gleaned a lot of info from the tech board over the years and I have no problem learning about a good holster to use while riding. And yes this should be on the general board but that would really be confusing.

That and you'll get different answers cause many on the Tech board don't even go to the General board side....
It's kind of touchy, but with a little bit of understanding, most can get your point and give some grace when a topic wanders a bit....

Talking about just nuts and bolts all day gets boring as hell.  I like the Tech Board because most that show up here are truly in need of some sort of assistance with a Valkyrie problem or just a little advice on some motorcycle problem.  Others show up daily just to see if they might be able to help someone with one of their problems.  But most of us show up here because we want to learn more about the bikes we ride, what problems we might expect to pop up, and how to fix these problems.  There are hundreds & hundreds of those who show up who never post anything, yet they take away enormous amounts of helpful information.  This board should be bike related, however, it should be entertaining also.  I believe that the gun/holster post and similar topics belong here because it did pertain to bike riding and the equipment many of us use, just as helmets & boots are an important part of "Biker Tech".  Just look at the hits & responses to the gun/holster post.  It was a topic of interest and importance to them and it did pertain to every day biking tech for many of us.  On the "old board" (God bless it!) there were many "non-Valk related post", but they were always posted by someone who needed assistance with a problem and they usually got the information needed from this group in a hurry.  There are some very talented individuals who frequent this board and I, for one, would like to keep them coming back.

There is a need for the General Board.  It is a place where many who know each other go to chit-chat or advertise of an upcoming event.  Many there know each other well and all of everyone's family.  This is good.  It is a place where almost anything is permissible and we need such a place for "Howdys", "Gossip", and "Such".

This.

I rarely go "over there", usually sticking to the Tech side of things for a number of reasons, least of which being the signal-to-noise ratio. Now I could turn that holster thread into a technical discussion real fast, as we begin to explore the ways of solid-mounting a scabbard to our Valkyries for purposes of carrying a long gun while riding.

Or we can debate which is the best oil to use with our autoloaders. I tend to not use either Mobil 1 OR Rotella in that particular application...  :2funny:

Hmmm...

Did this thread just get hijacked to gun tech?     :o

I kid you not, I know folks who swear by motor oil for their pistols. Of course, only the best synthetic for one's beloved shootin' iron.
Same stuff used in their scoot....
Now it's Valk related  :2funny:
