dan-marc fuel shutoff

Alot of you say you run a dan-marc electric fuel shutoff. I found where to get them but what size do you use? A valve number would be great.

I use the Dan-Marc fuel shutoff valve and, based on information I gleened from this board, installed it as follows:

I wired this valve to the coil so that it is "on" (open) when the key is turned on, and "off" (closed) with the key off. Because the coil wire is also connected to the bank angle sensor, the valve would also close in the unhappy event of the bike falling on its side. Power to the coil also shuts off with the stop engine switch. I also removed the vacuum side of the OEM petcock and replaced it with a plate (sealed by an o-ring). So the OEM petcock now functions strictly as an on-off valve. Actually, there is no need to turn the petcock off at all, since the new fuel valve closes when the key is turned off. Removal of the gas tank is probably the only reason to turn off the petcock now. 

Hey... ya gotta do sumpin to keep busy over these long, cold and snowy winter months. 

No more petcock problems (I hope).

Ok I just ordered my valve (yea I know, should have had it done already).  Tell me about this block off plate and where I can get it, or hook this into the fuel line and block off the vacuum line of the etc etc.  I figure by the time the snow melts up here, I might have this installed before the riding season starts.

You don't really need the plate.  All you have to do is take the valve apart, and put the spring on the other side of the diaphram to hold the valve open, then remove the vacuum line & plug at the intake.  The beauty of this, among other things, is after you've drained the carbs all you need to do when you want to run the bike again is turn the ignition on for half a minute for the carbs to fill and it will start right away - no need to crank the life out of your battery........

They Might be Killing you but they sure got me paranoid , as if i will be stuck flooded somewhere

I ordered my Dan Marc.  So if ya'll dumb this installation down to my level, I'll get it done.  Where exactly on the bike is it physically mounted?  The threads are 1/8 pipe.  What fittings do I need to install to the fuel lines?  1/8 male to a barb of some size, maybe?  It taps the coil wire for power in one method to install that I like.  Where does it tap into the coil wire?  I just want to know where to go on the bike to do the mod.  I still need to put the rear end back together after all the mods done there.  I need to quit reading this stuff.  I have a 3 inch ring binder full of mods to do before spring.

Bill, once you get the airbox off, the previous photo will show you exactly where to place the valve.
I'm currently wired to my aux fuse panel, but next time I have the tank off, I'll be changing it to the coil wire.  You're correct about the hose barbs, just take your fuel line to the hardware store to find a correct fit.

AUTOZONE has brass hose fittings  1/8 " pipe x 5/16 part#492-015.1.

Thanks Kingbee and Mean Cat.  I've printed out the pic and the part #.  Now to get a day off to go get the part and work on the bike.  Couple more weeks probably.  I'm following the thread on wiring it up also but so far, I'm lost.  Sure is easier to wire to a aux fuse panel.  I still think the coil wire is the way to go.  Need to study the manual wiring diagram some more.  Still too cold and no time to ride.    Retirement happens this year sometime.  Freedom is almost in view!

Am putting my Valk back together.  If I got it right on the OEM petcock, to turn it into a manual valve, as I just installed a Dan=Marc valve, take it apart, and only place the spring on the other side of the rubber diaphram?  Then, cap the vac port on the intake manifold? Should the vac pipe on the petcock be sealed with silicone to keep dirt out?  Not the drain hole?

Actually, I ran a vac line between the drain nipple (very small) and the vac nipple, just to close the system up.
