Having watch the vid from Serk, in drag racing is it the front wheel that goes to the line or the nose of the  vehicle.  The crossing the finish line is it the nose of the vehicle or the front wheel that counts. 

Just curious.

Fascinating guy, thanks for the links! When I posted the picture I figured this was cutting edge not from 1985. I also learned from Serks links that this guy worked on the Ford GT 40 project in the 60's.
