Carhartt fans

I went to the Carhartt supply near me to get a new jacket on Tuesday. I was told my coat is on back order and may be discontinued.

This is just an FYI for who may be interested.

        Are they still made in America? I managed to wear one Carhartt out. I also bought the cheap imatation from wally wurld. That Will NOT happen again! RIDE SAFE.

Carhartt is a shadow of it's former self.

Gone the way of Eddie Bower as yuppie wear.

Been wearing washed duck Detroit Jackets all my life, and my last one is threadbare and the zipper finally failed, but you can't get another one (you can get one they call the Detroit, but it's not the same jacket anymore).  Plus, try to find a jacket without a stupid hood.  I don't want a stupid hood, I wear hats.

I am tempted to wash my old one and take it to the Koreans for a new zipper.

  Several years ago we went to the Carhart outlet in Wisconsin. I needed a new work jacket.  All the labels I found were from china. I questioned it and was told I was wrong. I showed them the labels and left without buying another jacket. I still have my old American made jacket in my truck. Worn , torn and scarred. I'll still wear it.

My old faithful Carhartt. Made in USA. Ragged, welder burnt, worn soft and color long faded away. The hood is newer and snaps on/off to fit any Carhartt. I wouldn't trade it for a new one. I have a newer one in the closet, just doesn't feel right. Some times I wear a hood and a hat.

Carhartt is still a privately held, family-owned company, owned by the descendants of founder Hamilton Carhartt.

Carhartt owns and operates its manufacturing base in Mexico as well as a number of unionized factories and distribution centers in the United States. Carhartt offers a "Union-Made in USA" line of workwear through its retailers. The company has four factories in the United States. The firm also makes an effort to use domestic suppliers. In 2015, Carhartt purchased 19.5 million pounds of cotton from Georgia, 32 million buttons made in Kentucky, and 1 million drawcords from Kentucky.[5]

The manufacturing of many of Carhartt's non-core apparel items have been outsourced abroad. Some countries where outsourcing is and has been done are China and Mexico. Carhartt requires its international suppliers to be Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP) certified.

As of 2003, Carhartt operated a total of four factories in two Mexican states employing about 2000 workers. In 1997, Carhartt built a plant in Pénjamo, state of Guanajuato, Mexico, and in December 2001 they opened a second plant about 30 miles away, in the city of Irapuato. In 2003, Carhartt purchased two additional facilities from the Labor Board of the state of Durango in an auction. All of Carhartt's Mexican plants have WRAP certification.

Last time I looked into this (earlier last year), only a few hats, Tshirts, sox and accessories were still US made.

I've got 2 of these coats.

25+ year old brown one that still is in great shape, just stained and starting to fray some.  I'm guessing it was made in USA, but the label is to worn to read.

5+ year old black one that is my daily winter coat.  Just starting to feel broke in.  Made in Mexico.

Great warm coats that take a beating.

Pretty sure they will out last my need of them.

I haven't used any Carhartt coats / Jackets, but I do like their bib coveralls. Makes great motorcycle cold weather gear.

The jacket I posted has served me well for probably 10 or 12 years. There's some fraying at the bottom of the sleeve around the cuff and it's faded to a light tan but other than that not too bad. It's pretty much my November to March work/chore coat. No hoods for me either unless it's completely miserable outside or if I'm doing snow work then I have other coats for that.

I thought I'd pass along the info about this coat probably being discontinued since it's a popular style and who knows who wears it across our membership and other acquaintances.

My bib's are 25 yrs. old but rarely use them other than snow blowing etc. They keep me very toasty in combination with my GI insulated boots.
