Grrrr. Gerbing temp controller

Stopped working.

Mitcho plugged his in to my terminal and no power.

I checked the fuse this morning. It's OK

I used a different one just in case. No power.

Both battery connections are nice and tight.

Suggestions?

Sorry, no help, but with Gerbing warranty no longer being honoured, it's a bummer. I also bought Gerbing because they where local/USA branded, and offered their lifetime warranty, but when they sold out, it went too.

Just bumping the post, want to see where this one goes, since I have them too.

I would start with looking for a used spare at a reasonable price to keep the same brand. But another should work, you may just need to change out the power port with a gender changer.

As for a real answer, can it be taken apart? It should be a basic electronic repair. A meter, some time, maybe the local High School Tech teacher to help out, youtube has a lot. You just need to know what to call it to do the right search.

Well if the pigtail wire to the battery is dead at the jacket plug, and the fuse is good, just replace the pigtail (if you can't find the break).

Just make sure you get the correct SAE or Coaxial plug end pigtail.

What type of electronics test gear do you have access to?

Those controllers are also potted against weather. Be prepared to do some digging into the material to troubleshoot the components if one went bad.

Gerbing originally got their controllers from WarmNsafe.  Then they reverse-engineered them and outsourced to China, ripping off WNS who didn't have an official patent.  Which is expensive, I paid $10k for mine and it took 3 years.  I would not buy ANYTHING from an outfit with such ethics.  If the controller is bad, a WarmNSafe one will likely work for you. That's where mine came from and it still works fine after 20 years.

I have integrated controllers (Gerbing) which have been on my Connies since 2010 and 2012, respectively. No issues thus far and both see a fair amount of use in cooler/colder months. (I ride year-round. As long as no snow, ice or slush on the roads I'm out if at all possible.)

Should either of these fail I'll look at a W-N-S unit as a replacement.

After I burned my nipples off a few years ago, I look at the whole rig with distrust, and do fine with heavier gear.  And If it's really cold, I drive the truck.

Fixed it a little. 

I've had the bike out in 10 degrees F, running at redactedludicrous speed. The heated stuff doesn't make you "toasty" at that value of wind chill but you aren't freezing either. More like, you simply don't notice warm or cold.

I met a pretty fun couple at 2002 Sturgis -- crazy Harley dude and his squaw.  His words, she didn't seem to mind.  Rode around for several days together, them straddling his Harley Dyna Electra $umpin' $umpin' wide-stride ride-glide, me on my trusty old Shadow.

Anyway, he was saying how he doesn't use heated jackets and rides all year 'round.  Two wheels were his main transportation.  He was from Ohio and said he was used to riding in cold, on snow and ice -- "could ride in the winter anywhere in the nation", blah, blah, blah.  I told him he was crazy for trying, but he wouldn't want to attempt such madness where I come from.  He asked about Gunni, and I explained our "unique" winters.  For the rest of the time, I couldn't convince him that our roads are always frozen in winter, and he'd be flash frozen in a matter of minutes after sundown from late September thru early April here.  Before parting ways, I invited him to ride up for a visit some December or January.  He hasn't.  

Already almost Gerbing time already.    Pretty nice this afternoon, may get out for a shorty.

I was wearing the recommended Tshirt only underneath.  Things were fine until I started running fast and high revs.  I didn't touch the controller but it just kept getting hotter, and I was the frog in slow boiling water.  I was in traffic with no place to easily pull off (and had to pay attention), I was wearing those big boxing glove (old gerbing) gauntlets, and I had the controller on my belt, which got covered by my jacket sitting in the seat.  Not that I had any dexterity to do any kind of an adjustment with those boxing gloves.

I should have just yanked wires out of plugs, but it was my first rodeo.  I held the liner off my body but I still got burned.  And glowed bright red in the shower for a week.  

I never tried the gear again.

I put a heavy undershirt and long-sleeved shirt on, then the heated jacket. My riding vest goes over that and lastly a leather riding jacket. Sometimes the undershirt is left out and over the heated jacket goes a hooded sweat shirt (in extremely cold weather).

Never been burned this way. Have a set of heated pants liners, but haven't needed them owing to the Connie's warm (okay, unbearable in summer) cockpit.

If I was riding CO in the winter it would probably be on an R-GSA or Super Adventure. Not a cruiser by any stretch.

Once spent a month in Ohio on a job back in the late 70's.  The security guard couldn't believe we drove our trucks on the frozen lakes.
