Muffler

Can anyone tell me how long the end section of the muffler is on a 1999 interstate ? ....and is it a 4" pipe?

I think 18", but the interstate (IS) may be a tad longer than the others.  I know my IS replacement stacks were 18".

4" ID.

That 18" section is not the muffler.

ID is 100mm/3.937 thus 4" 18 gauge exhaust pipe fits very good from my experience at making my own tips.

I was thinking about cutting my old Harley mufflers and using them.

Just remember, If you want longer ones, they tend to drag leaving and departing aprons, especially at an angle.  And backing down on tall curbs can be troublesome too.  Also with turnouts.

With the pictures that "gordnov" posted, the 100mm fit area is where the small hole is showing on the end of the stock unit.

Before painting them with heat paint, I ran a 4" grinder up/down the muffler, since I felt it was a very tight fit. I placed the stack outside in the sun to heat it up and have it expand a little.

But even with that, it was a real pain trying to force them down over the muffler. I took the pointed end, and slammed it into a wood block to force it on. It bent a little, but straightened out ok.
