VTX Fender & Brackets not Working

I got a VTX Fender and all the mounting hardware and brackets.  I am familiar with how you adapt this fender to the Valk.  The front part of the bracket mounts as it would with the predrilled hole to the front of the fork lower.  The back part needs to be redrilled further out to the side.  The left side seems to be ok to redrill.  But when I go to the right side, the area that I have to redrill would fall over the edge of the bracket I think.  When I look through the fork mounting hole, I just see the edge of the bracket, but on the other side, I see the whole bracket, no edge.  Not sure if this is just a tolerance difference and Im the unlucky one.  Anyone have this problem or suggestions?  Anyone make their own bracket?  I would prefer to have the fender further forward on the tire anyway since my rake kit and somewhat lower to the tire.

Mine is the same thing, the one hole breaks out the edge just a little bit but it doesn't show and functionaly there is enough that the bolt could never slip out the side. I figured  the same thing, a tolerance stackup that went all the way to one side but maybe it is common.

Is yours on both sides or just one?

I remembered I have those parts off right now and went and looked at them. Here is a pic and there is a full 50% of the hole breaking out but its been like this for 2 seasons and hasn't been a problem.

Ok.  Thats about where my right side hole will end up also.  Do you use a drill press or just a hand drill?  I dont want the drill to walk on me.

I used a drill press but if you put a good center punch dimple in it and start with a smaller drill a hand drill will work fine.

Im trying to mount this fender as low to the tire as safely possible.  Right now I have it 3/16ths of an inch above.  Is that too close?  Is there a recommeded distance?

Have you evr seen a Dragster go down the track?    The rear tire swells up md narrows out.   Your front tire will also do that at speed..........

If it is going to be a ride it to a show and put it in and then take it home your 3/16 might work......

Yea your right.  My buddy pointed that out to me right after I posted the message.  Im going to have to drill two holes instead of one.
