oil thread to stir up the Valkyrie members

I have gone back to a honda oem filter and honda 10w40 oil . I use to use rotella 5w40 and a mobil 1 110 car filter. But jersey98 i believe said they changed theformula on the rotella no longer valkyrie friendly.  am I one of the few using oem filters and 10w40 honda oil?

I'm not sure about the filters (I use CarQuest filters @ $2.99 each by the case), but Honda does NOT make oil.

There are many perfectly acceptable MC oils for our use. Spectro makes very good MC products. As long as you use oil spec's for MC use, you're good. My oil filter choice is a Purolator Boss (PBL14610) which I have to get from Amazon. Pep Boys handled them but have shutdown their retail stores here.

Well I know because Im old enough to remember the oil threads of the past. So not to stir up anything but I use mobile one m/c oil. Even though it says VTwin on it. Im sure it will lube 6. Im bearing down on 200,000 miles and my oil is still so clean if I try to check it on the dip stick (I almost never do) it's hard to see.  The bike runs like new. You can't ask for more from an oil. Honda oil can't be twice as good just because it costs twice as much. My .02

Johnson Controls makes filters for a bunch of companies so, I suspect you're correct.   So does Wix.

Reference oil, pick your poison.   I got a heck of a deal on some oil a while back when it mistakenly was put on clearance.  Bought all I could get.  May never have to buy motorcycle oil again.  
Royal Purple at $2.95 a quart, couldn't pass that up.

Had issues with the new formulated T6 also. Running Mobil1 & Bosch #3323 long filter. Been using Bosch filters for about 10 yrs.

Can't tell ya when, Oss, but if I remember correctly the amount of Zinc was reduced in the new formula which some said made it less friendly to MC engines with wet clutches. I've never used the stuff but it seems like that was the issue.(if it really is an issue)

Do you have O'reillys stores where you are? I get Lucas Synthetic 10w-30 there for my F6B. The 1832cc flat 6 really likes it.

a good cheap oil filter is made by HI-FLO comes in black for around 8 bucks each.  Either that or Purolator as said prior.

I think was HF303 if not mistaken.  My UTV/ATV store nearby had them for 7.95 each so bought the last 3 they had but called another cycle store and were 10 bucks each so maybe price is going up like everything else is?

sucks as well I see my local Farm Fleet not carrying rotella T6 as well anymore.  I asked them and they claim is a shortage of Shell supplying them with product.  Hard to beat their pricing on sale under 20 bucks for 1 gallon jug and under 40 for 2.5 gallon jug. 

I quit using Amsoil 10w-40 full synthetic once it went over 11 bucks per quart now 12-13 per qt.  Just too costly when have 4-5 cycles using it to change yearly.

More recently, with two bikes, I've been running synthetic oil. I haven't found any
mobil-1 oil (just that two cylinder stuff Jeff runs    ) anywhere, locally or on line, so
I got a few boxes of Castrol synthetic motorcycle oil. Anyone remember the wonderful
smell of Castrol bean oil at the motocross track?

where do you get it still for 10 bucks per quart? 

I buy straight from Amsoil, but I buy the one gallon jugs. Quarts are more.

EPA mandate was changed in 2017. The spring of 2019 was when I had the issue after buying a new formula jug. Now's that assuming my memory is a workin' proper.

I remember the smell of bulk oil my dad sold in his gas station 60 years ago.  Had to pump into a big glass container with a metal spout on it.  The farmers always bought it because it was cheaper than the stuff in the can's.

I mix a little Klotz techniplate in my lawn mower, love the smell.
