I've Bought My Last Honda

I love my Valkyrie.  I plan to keep it the rest of my riding days.   If plans change and I do buy another new motorcycle I dont think its going to be a Honda. I bought my 2001 Valkyrie new (nearly new-it had 600 miles on it) at Wild West Honda in Houston, Texas.  I also bought a brand new Honda Rancher 4 wheeler at Wild West Honda in 2004.   I still own it.    10 yrs ago Wild West Honda told me they wouldnt do any kind of work on my Valkyrie anymore as it was over 10 yrs old.   This is the dealer that sold these products to me.    They wont fix what they sell.   

I moved my business to Honda of Houston to get my service work and repairs and parts.   Been a good relationship for last 10 or so yrs.    I bought 800 dollars of tires recently to go to the Spring Fling in Mississippi.   I called today and ordered a new air filter and asked how much to put in the air filter and to replace the vacumn lines.   They informed me new company policy they dont work on any bikes 15 yrs or older.   Going to ho there tomorrow and cancel my parts order and tell them I wont buy their parts anymore.  Im going to try College Station dealership tomorrow and see if they will work on it.

This sucks.   I only spend probably $2,000 a yr at the dealership.  Guess its not enough to keep them interested.

wwent to the dealer today.....Honda of Houston...they gave me the business card of a motorcycle repair shop in the area that they highly recommended....we will see next time I need something done.

Kinda crazy to not work on older bikes.  I'm curious as to what the real reason for the age cut off. 

Is Wild West Honda's 10 year rule effective across all their lines of bikes or just the Valkyrie?

Yep,asked them to replace my fork seals-reluctantly agreed for $400!!!! Wtf
They gave me contact to  JK at 11502 south garden.he is gonna do it for $160, my parts.

BMW at woodlands stopped working on bikes over 10.  Spoke to them and they said risk of breaking plastic parts too high. I guess when all the body panels are plastic- they are designed to break.

I have a good mechanic that was my neighbor. He stays covered up. Use to work Global motorsports but now has his own business.   He knows GW and Valks. let me know if you need his contact number.  He came to me couple of weeks ago and picked up a spare alternator I had to get one of his customers on the road quick. Some how he new I had spares.  He does my forks and I do not care what he charges me.

I don't think that's just Honda.  When I had an older Suzuki (It was 20 at the time), that dealer thought I was crazy for expecting them to be able to find parts (I have to admit that I never asked them to work on it...).
The same thing happened to my Ford when it turned 10.  I asked about a part, and the dealer just blew me off. 
You'd be hard pressed to find me in a dealership of any flavor these days.

Across the board all bikes.   Their mission is not to keep old bikes on the road.    Their mission is to sell you a new motorcycle.

In 2005, I trailered my boss's AMC Harley to the HD stealer.  They told me the 10 year rule.  So it's been around a while.

My 2003 Z06 50th Anniversary Corvette with 70k in very good condition...can no longer get a variety of parts including new side window seals so when it rains.no bueno...an after market set I saw at $700..?planned obsolesence....with the cams and headers it sounds great anyway with the windows down
