Hard to compose photos when you have a 92 pound black Lab pulling on his leash.

He just wants to say hello to everyone and it seemed the front tires of the bikes held a special allure.

This flashes me back to getting my father or someone to drive
me across town to "Travelmates" where they sold travel trailers
and motorcycles and stuff. Most importantly to me, Travelmates
is where I bought my 1972 LT-2 Yamaha 100. They sold Triumphs
too. I remember in 73 when Triumph Tridents started showing up.
At the time (my head was probably full of stuff fed to me by
motorcycle magazines) I thought Triumph was scrambling to
stay relevant with CB 750s and stuff.

Now I think the Triumph looks great and 1973 CB 750s look
clunky  ...

Does your dog take you for a drag?  I see that in my neighborhood all the time.  The funniest one is a little pug bulldog that works like a locomotive pulling his tiny female owner down the sidewalk.

I can't tell how old this Harley is, but... my father raced Harleys
in this area before WWII. He described the races, TT he called it,
as being like motocross with no jumps (they didn't have
suspension). Bikes then had the foot clutch and shifter
that you had to reach down and grab...

I was stopped at an intersection the other day, several bikes
were turning in front of me. I picked one to watch through
the turn and halfway through the turn he reached down
and shifted gears  ... those motorcycle probably suck
compared to the ones we're used to, but in my imagination
it would be very cool to shift that way.

Maybe he will see this and respond, but I believe that RP#62 put a hand shifter on his Valk. I'd like to see those pics again.

I liked the old left handed throttle on Indians.

So most right handed cops could shoot from the saddle.

Though that's probably frowned on today.


My earliest motorcycle experience was watching my older cousin Steve (in WV) (who I idolized) finally get his ancient old beater Harley running in his basement garage (where you drove down from the back yard under the house).  I was probably about 10yo.

He got it fired up, jumped on, revved it up to 4K, popped the clutch and shot up out of the basement.  The throttle stuck and he blasted right across the yard and through a solid wood 6 foot fence, splinters flying, and wiped out.  One of the funniest things I had ever seen.  Neither Steve or the bike was hurt, much.  

Right away I thought..... I gotta get me one of those when I grow up.
