Pre Paid Cell phone

     Verizon has purchased Straight Talk. I am NOT a happy camper!  Already had consumer cellular and went back to Straight Talk. Verizon saying they Will keep the service at $35.00 a month BUT a couple walmart employees think that Verizon might stay at $35.00 a monthe but gradually up it to near $50.00  $60.00 a month. Any y'all on a monthly deal and I would Really like to be in that $30.00  $35.00 a month range with unlimited that Actually Means UNLIMITED. What? Cricket I believe is on a QUARTERLY pay plan? Anyone here using that? And as Always Ladies and Gents-T I A!  RIDE SAFE.

I pay $190.48 a month (That's the actual amount after all diddly fees, tax, everything) for 5 lines unlimited all the things on AT&T...

Kali went with Mint for her phone after she got out on her own, to get the best price you have to pay I think for 6 months at a time, but it's pretty inexpensive overall as well...

We have four AT&T phones for just a little less than that. I use the two
that are "mine"  to hotspot Internet since I only have extremely slow DSL
as my only other option... so, AT&Ts "unlimited" plan is limited to 40 GBs
per phone...

What exactly are you wanting for Cell service ? There is probably an option out there somewhere if you're not too unreasonable.

        I talk text send photos. Really Not much. How long has Verizon had Tracfone? Thinkin what has upset me the most-O K  P OD-was them intterupting service I'd already paid for even after they'd sent me numerous texts about the "DEAL"! And the reply from my text was-tada-a robot!  The supplied 800# was backed up Large and figured time fer a change! Well preciate Everyone and couple things I Are gonna look into! RIDE SAFE.

I have no idea how long Verizon has owned Tracfone, but my service (I switched because they had the new phone I wanted at a good price) was transferred only a couple months ago.

30 to 40 per month is a great deal.  We pay 250 for 4 phones (3 have pymts still left on them) each month unlimited everything thru US Cellular,  the only carrier where I live that has good reception, except for a few dead spots in the country that drops calls even with US Cellular.

Mother in law pays no monthly fee (I think?) for a tracphone and buys minutes every 3 months I think on a prepaid card, works well for her, best deal out there.  I just bought for her a somewhat decent Samsung tracphone that was like on sale for 150 bucks takes decent pics, etc. , not great, but good enough.

Total Wireless just got put under the VERIZON umbrella too.

I've been paying $35 incl taxes a month for unlimited talk, text and 5GB of data a month.

So far it seems like the price is still the same

Last I checked Visible, which is owned by Verizon is $40 per month unlimited on Verizon system.  They promise no customer service. They mean it. All customer service is AI.
But it is $40 all in taxes included.

Getting my bikes in to my mechanic an hour away, I'm going to need UBER for rides to and from.  It appears you can actually call a phone number if you are a driver, but you can only get a ride as a passenger if you have a cell phone and and app (of some sort). 

So I can't use UBER?

If you want to continue being stubbornly proud that you don't have a cell

I'm stubbornly against the cost and admitting some kind of dependency, but I'm not particularly proud of it. 

It's just one aspect of my economic frugality which is a source of pride.

you could be like my mother in law who bought a tracphone and buys minutes on a card to use up every 3 months or so.  Is cheaper I know than a 30-40 dollar per month plan.  Cell phones come in handy in an emergency though or basic pics and texting.

Many banking and other financial services are going to two factor authentication for services, and one of those factors is turning out to be a text to a cell phone...

In a nutshell - that is correct. And it will have to be a Smartphone.

If there are regular taxis in your area, you might be able to call them on a "landline" or flipphone. Goodluck finding a payphone anymore.

on the guitar forum recently. I don't have venmo or paypal or... but I might submit yet,
I sent him a check up front to California and just trusted that the guitar would show
up at my house eventually...

This forum would be stuck with nothing but my boring words if not for my phone!

Dennis, I've been with Cricket for quite a few years. I pay $35/month for unlimited talk, text, and don't recall the data limit but I've never come close to using it up. Phones for me are used mainly for making calls and taking calls, a photo once in a while, that's about it. Have had good service regardless of where I happen to be.

We have two prepaid with verizon, unlimited talk and text, wife has 6g, I have 16g for 76.13 total. She needed a new phone two years back I got a free one from my son. They do not have those plains any more. We have to us the gigs for hot spot for the computer, we might use ten gig a month .

I felt the answering machine was an adequate invention to improve on communication, wish it would have stopped there. I carry one for work because it is in the terms of my employment. June '24 i will turn it in and go back to an answering machine and house phone.

My answering machine died after about 20 years.  I have a new one, but haven't wired it up.  My Verizon house phone tells me who called, so I can call someone back (not panhandlers or sales people).  I understand blocking your caller ID, but I never answer or call back blocked caller IDs, and I've missed some wanted calls that way.
