The good old days.

Remember the good old days, when gas had lead, and so did the paint, and you knew enough not to eat or drink either of them.  Seat belts were an option on a car, cigarettes were good for you, and everyone smoked, even in hospitals!!  Only the mentally deranged and football players wore a helmet.

Parents didn't worry about were the kids were, and the police weren't looking to arrest them for anything they might see as mischievous. Kids had common sense!  Heck with the kids, everyone did!!  Going to church didn't mean you would end up getting molested by the priest, and a kiss was considered a home run!!

Wow, have things changed in 40 years!  What's it going to be like in 40 more!!

When I was 14,  I went squirrel hunting. I would ride my bicycle through Ft. Wayne with my .22 rifle slung over my shoulder.

I also had a newspaper route in the middle of the black community. I never had any kind of problem even when I went into 'The Chocolate Bar', a local black tavern. ( I did not make up the name).  I was always treated OK.

If I did something wrong, my dad would beat my arse like a TomTom.

All this is gone, some of it due to PC. :(

I think this is why I don`t buy a lot of "stuff" now days because I remember the prices of yesteryear.  :'( I look at a $7.00 burger and say, hell I bought these for .75 when I was 20 years old.  :(

More!  !949.  I, and my buddy, rode our Matchless motorcycles from Ft. Wayne to the Smokies and back. I paid $9.60 for gas for the whole trip. 1600 miles.  My Matchless was a hardtail.  My arse wasn't the worse for wear.

Crap, I couldn't make that trip today on a Gold Wing without bitching.  Hoser, we are indeed relics and dinosaurs.

my dad had a big-o merc(i think). i used the back seat fold down arm rest in the middle as a seat.
and on long trips would nap on the rear shelf! :o

Lonerbtw

We were just talking about this at the Cal. State Trike In this weekend. I was a member of the shooting team. We had a range in the bassment of the school. You could use the schools guns or bring your own in. Then we would have matches against other schools , everyone would carry there own on the bus.
And yes the back deck in the car was my seat.

Heehee... my dog Bonnie got the rear shelf in my Buddy Dan's old car on a trip to Charleston once, and fell through, was
part of the way into the trunk...

-Mike "did you ever fall through?"

How about $.09 with no tax included.    Back then there wasn't a gas tax.

Somewhere I have a picture of me in front of grandpa's station with the $.09 on the front window.    If I ever find it I'll post it.

Oh, this was 1934.
