Best way to remove oil if I have too much in the bike. (Dumb question)

I know dumb question...Pull the plug and let some out...LOL

Anyway I am having a serious bad time with cranking the bike after sitting over night. it sputters and acts like its flooded or oil fouling and when it finally catches up it smokes blue untill I burn it off. it runs and cranks fine the rest of the day and then does it again the next day.

I posted that and some suggested I have too much oil in it. I checked and it is above the top line just a little(1/8th an inch above the top line). actually it is just before where the stick begins to get round again.

I was also told it could be a bad pet rooster leaking into the #6. 

I never had this issue until I set the bike up for about 2 months.

I will first try to remove some of the oil down to midway between the two marks and try for a while there. if that doesnt work I guess I will have to check on the petcock drain.

Any easy way to remove a little oil without pulling the drain plug?

Thoughts  or suggestions from the experts on any of this????

How long has it been since you changed oil?  If it's been awhile, just do an oil change.  If not, change your filter and top off.

An awesomely easy way to look into the #6 issue is to pull that spark plug... the experience I had that was similar to yours
had that plug looking obviously baaaaad. Way bad. Plus, on that bike, the petcock was obviously leaking... I guess that doesn't
have to be the case...

take the oil filter off let it drain, put it back on. easiest way unless u are overfilled by 1/2 quart or more. :)

I doubt your oil is overfilled. Everyone including dealer service departments pour all of the last quart in there. Just over the line shouldn't normally cause you any grief.

Is your oil/rich exhaust the left side only? If it is it may be the diaphragm back flowing down the #6 vac line as mentioned. If it's coming out both exhausts somewhat equally it's likely not your petcock unless it has failed 100% and in which case you would be at extreme risk of Hydrolock.

Are you using any fuel additives? Does it only smoke with the choke (enricher)?

You measuring the oil in an UPright position or on the side stand?

UPright is the way it should be and just stick the guage into the block and DO NOT screw  it in.

Drop it in and pull it back out.

Remove excess:
1.   Pull filter and dump, install filter, run bike, shut off and repeat this step till enough is out.
2.   Turkey Baster
3.   I call them a sucker.
     a.  Rubber ball on top of a plastic tube with a smaller tube on it to stick in the crankcase.    Original use was a battery tester.
     b.  Mighty vac, but it is a bitch to clean up after you are done
     c.  Pull the plug and pop it back in, very messy.

No way it is over full by enough to be a problem, unless your buying your oil at walmart in the 5 quart jug.

... and borrow the pump for a few minutes.  Unscrew pump . . . stick it in the oil fill hole.  Pump out what ya need, then replace pump in shampoo jug.  Return shampoo to shower.  Done deal.  Yrmv,  :roll:
