Still wanting a .308 for really long distances but.... Not a fan of pistol cartridge in assault rifle form but I do understand the thought behind them. Had a Hi Point .45 carbine that was a very dirty gun to use and not that accurate for a .45. Sold it 2 wks. later.

I'm a big .45 1911 pistol fan, so the Kriss Vector uses the same ammo (I keep a lot around), and that carbine is a hard hitter (with light, laser and red dot) in an urban uprising kind of way.  With large mags, or std Glock 21 mags.  And the Kriss has a very good recoil mitigation bolt system for heavy 230 grain .45 acp.

A standard 16" bbl AR will also serve that purpose.

I like an 18" bbl AR style .308.

Of course a bolt gun is best for hunting critters.

My other carbine & pistol combo of same caliber is the Marlin Model 1894 .44 Mag lever gun and Ruger Super Blackhawk.





However, the set isn't really complete because I don't have a horse.  


I do have some experience riding them.  But my first time in the Boy Scouts, the ornery fellow spent all day trying to rub me off on every tree we passed.

It's surprisingly accurate with 60+ year old surplus ammo.
One of these days I'll work up a hand load for it.

A PCC doesn't have to be a semi.

My cowboy combo is a Rossi 92 and a Wiehrauch Bounty Hunter 7.5. Both in .44 mag.

Whatever works good... is good.   

And my old (trifocal corrected) eyes and most milsurp type iron sights do not deliver happy results.  The old rear sight, front sight and target focusing are much harder than putting the dot or cross-hair on the target.

I also have a nice workbench setup.

Spanish "Destroyer Carbine"  about 1938. 9mm Largo 9x23. Sort of a mini Mauser 93.
I got lucky. It's a real jewel with mirror bore.

No permanent changes made to add the red dot to the existing sight cradle.

I should have known it wasn't a .22 from your post; who loads their own .22?    

I have 2 Spanish Mausers;  8mm K98 shoulder busters.  The short carbine is pretty unpleasant to shoot (but it looks good mounted up on the wall).
