Sincerely, looking forward to the morning of 8 December. Some may not understand why but the truth is that's the date that the Medicare ads will have stopped the text messages and emails. For at least about 11 1/2 months.  I think.

I get really tired of having to delete all the messages and phone calls I get about people wanting my money. Have a good day

Rams.

The ads run year around here in Florida. Rather obnoxious.

Rams

That may be true and I just don't notice.   But prior to and during the signup period it's one after another.

There wuz a time when there wuz no sucha thing as a mute button!  We hadda git up offin our butts to change channels adjust the tv and turn it on or off at the tv itself. Then the cigarette ads reigned supreme!  And YUPPERS those medicare ads iz obnoxious what with washed up sports types and washed up hollyweird actor types doing the schill part.  :ick: Yup mute it change channels turn tv off! Some other things I'd wish would dissappear entirely-the drug ads fer new drugs and the law fims suing the drug companies ads!  :cooldude: RIDE SAFE.

Good to know Ron.

The full court press of TV, email, paper mail and phone calls gets old.

If I needed that crap, I'd have that crap.

Now if they'd just turn off the never ending TV drug commercials which give me more than a "mild to moderately severe" pain in my ass.   :tickedoff:

I've posted on this before, but...

The United States and New Zealand are the only countries in the world where drug makers are allowed to market prescription drugs directly to consumers.  Why do you suppose this is?

It's prohibited nearly everywhere because it's wrong.  It's probably allowed in the US because the pharmaceutical billionaires have spread their wealth around to politicians and government employees/agencies.

What kind of business model is it to have happy dancing azzholes on TV all day telling people they can be happy and dancing too if they just eat this dope??  Presumably, the idea is that people see the adds, and then beg their doctors to prescribe it.  I suppose the pharmaceutical companies lobby and pay doctors too.  And all the TV networks must love all the money they make on the happy dancing drug commercials (which must be 50 to 60 percent all ALL commercials).

Yeah, I'm sick of being exposed to it in my living room (mute button), but it's not just highly annoying, it's wrong (and it's not 1st amend free speech either).

The ad blitz of expensive brand-name drugs is often cited as a factor for rising health care costs. Prescription drugs accounted for nearly 17% of total health care spending in 2015, up from about 7% in the 1990s. These increased costs translate into higher insurance premiums, coinsurance rates, and copays.  Seniors have been particularly hard hit, facing high out-of-pocket costs.

Many many people only stay alive or have a great improvement in their health because of pharmaceuticals.  And that's a good thing.  But do you suppose these people's lives were saved or health improved because of TV adds?   This advertising should stop!!!

Like most people, I hate TV commercials, and if it wasn't for the mute button, I would watch no TV at all.  But you still have to watch the muted (happy dancing) screen to see when your program comes back on.  What I want is the TV makers to design and market a TV that mutes and blacks out the screen for all TV commercials, then comes back on for the program.  You know it's possible.  I'd buy one of those tomorrow.

There are commercials so obnoxious and repetitive, that I will never buy their product no matter if it is the best and cheapest one available (like Domino's Pizza).  As payback for their mind numbing torture.

I agree, the drug ads need to be removed from advertising. If they want to advertise on tv, then there should be designated tv channels just for drug companies to have their product propaganda.

There can be various channels for every type of illness imaginable, just like (if any of you folks also have cable and see them) 50-100 channels for different kinds of music to listen to.

There was a commercial on yesterday or the day before for a 3 minute cancer treatment and I swear they spent more time reading off the potential side effects than the talking about the drug or the treatment.

To pay for all those ads, insurance companies must make a lot of money selling those Medicare replacement plans. Maybe some of the advertising dollars would be better spent providing care for policyholders.

December 8 is when I started my new life. Yes Medicare in my in box, junk in my home mail box going straight into the recycling bin.

carolinarider09

I began to get unsolicited calls on my home phone (landline) a month of so ago.  Was getting maybe 10 or 15 a day.  Most were related to Medicare and all from bogus numbers.

Since I dropped my landline service over wire (from AT&T) I shifted to a service using my network connection (provided by a local COOP).  So, I called the provider and asked how I might block these calls.  They have a method.  When you call my "what was LandLine" number a recorded voice tells you that because I wanted to block these calls, you have to press "5" on the phone keypad to make the call go through.  No more calls get through but if a real person wants to call, as long as they have a keypad , they can call.

On my cell phone (it started there first) I had the same issue. The phone I now have has an option to send callers not in my list of contacts to voicemail.  That way I don't miss real calls but all the robo calls get blocked.  Yesterday, it appears I got 30 plus calls from the scammers.

And do not forget there is a "NO CALL" list that you can sign up on.

NOTE:  IT DOES NO GOOD!!!!!!!!

You can sign up but since there are no repercussions from the Feds if you call the numbers on the list no one cares and they just keep calling.  Its just a feel good thing from the Feds.

Dennis, when I am asked for email and phone number by businesses, I tell them I don't have those.  So I don't get emails and calls trying to sell me sh!t.  Get some funny looks though.
