Here We Go Again

Ten to 16 inches of wet consistency snow is forecast for my area starting on Sunday about 8 PM lasting until late afternoon on Monday. It looks like coastal MA, especially the Cape and Islands will get the worst of it with winds topping 60 to 70 mph causing Blizzard conditions and significant coastal erosion. The RI coast and parts of the CT coast are going to get high winds, too. I'm about 28 miles west of Boston. Here winds are expected to max out at about 40 mph. It's gonna suck for a lot of people with significant power outages expected.   I'm hopping we avoid that.

This is the 2nd big storm this season. I just cleaned up two inches of heavy wet snow this morning. So this is getting pretty old at this point. This is the worst winter we've had in 11 years. Maybe it's time for me to move into a condo. But I don't think I'm ready for that yet. And I don't want to move to FL. We'll all be really looking forward to Spring this year.

I can suggest a couple assisted living facilities, Tony. Just got off the phone with Shorty.  They had a 72 degree day this past week.  He is enjoying his side by side all terrain vehicle.  Sold his last Valkyrie and says he is done with 2 wheels.  Have fun moving snow.  I topped off the John Deere with diesel and will check the gas in the snowblower tomorrow.  The VA called and cancled my Monday appointment in Jamaica Plain today.

Sounds pretty much like our forecast. For us it will be starting around 9 PM on Sunday, with the real heavy snowfall rates showing up about 3 AM on Monday. Snowfall rates from 2 to 4 inches an hour depending on location. The Plymouth area seems to be the jackpot.

NYC is also getting this storm. Can you imagine how crazy that could be dealing with all that snow in the big City? At least less of a chance for power outages in a city with the utilities under ground. Going to be historic for the City.

While working in Boston, I saw one of those snow melting rigs in action during February 2015. That was the winter that Boston got 108 inches of snow. I had a short walk from South Station to my office on Summer Street. Was really hard to get around.

3 ft drifts in Northern RI so far. Very reminiscent of 78 but that was real bad. I worked with a woman in Hull mass. that lost her house when the ocean crashed the sea wall and swept every house into the marsh. That Groundhog sucks.

Difficult to say how much snow fell...1 inch here and close to 2 ft. over there...Luckily it's not a wet snow....
Won't take too long with snowblower to clear driveway, then shovel out the fire pit for an afternoon Happy Hour beverage..

The reporting by local news makes one think that the entire Cape has a power outage. Glad to know that you don't. You're very lucky! It could take days for the outer Cape to get power. Sucks. 

There was drifting of snow from the high winds so it's hard to tell how much we got. I measured in a bunch of places and figure it was 14 inches, give or take. It took the better part of the morning to get it cleaned up. The snow was not like concrete. But it was dense and heavy. Sherry helped by shoveling the snow off the deck late morning. Here's a picture of the deck before Sherry shoveled. The blue tarp is covering up a firewood caddie.  I couple for minor storms are expected before Saturday, which will be in the 40s.

OK, enough already..  5 to 6 inches of heavy wet snow fell overnight...
It was like wet oatmeal rolling out of the snowblower....
Supposed to be mid to upper 40's this afternoon...That should melt what I missed in the driveway..

That sucks Terry.  

We had a snow/freezing rain mixture last night. It got to 52 degrees today and anything in the sun melted. There's a section of my driveway about six feet out from the garage door that doesn't get sun this time of year. So I did my best to scrape that off and put down my rapidly diminishing calcium chloride pellets.

We're supposed to get another messy mix late Thursday night an into Friday morning. We'll see how it works out. Supposed to be in the lows 60s here on Sunday through Wednesday. With all the expected snow melt unfixed pot holes, I don't expect to get the bike out until deeper into March.

We can definitely feel and see the effects of that sun shining Tony....Our temps hit the upper 40s yesterday...Not sure what the approaching storm will leave behind, but our temps for Fri, Sat, Sun, and Mon are predicted to be upper 40s to low / mid 50s...Yeah, the potholes and frost heaves will be out in full force with the warmer temps...Won't be long and the no see'ums, black flies, and mosquitos will be out looking for blood...
