Tar Snakes

Yesterday was a great day to go for ride.  Usually on Sundays there is not much traffic.  So, I geared up and took out my freshly washed Valk. As usual she was rearing to go and had to hold her back as we were on 55 mph roads.  About 15 miles out we were nearing a small town of Keno, when suddenly on a curve the dreaded tar snakes made the presents noted.  Big Time.  The Highway folks had coated the road with them, leaving a checkboard of clean road about 3' by 3'.  thankfully the temps were still in the middle 50's, so the snakes were not real mushy yet.  Needless to say, we both took a deep breath and slowed way down. Thankfully the snakes only lasted about 3 miles.

I had planned on circular route which would have brought me back to this stretch of road.  Thankfully there was an alternate route that put me on a much higher traveled road and much faster speeds.  Which Valk like better than most of the slow roads I planned on. This last stretch of road, some 40 miles, usually has a lot of traffic.  I was able to find a break in the traffic and went 40 miles without some one in front or behind me.  All told it was a good 3 hour ride.

Been really wet here for a few days, still looks quite threatening today but I rolled the dice and mowed the grass before another rain event rolled in. Wrenching on the Wing while it's been raining.

Not a fan of those snakes

Worst ones I ever saw were on Chief Joseph Highway on way to Beartooth followed closely by the ones going west up the Big Horns

Here in NY it is the strip paving,  multiple strips a foot or two wide  Why they dont just pave the whole freaking road is beyond me

Takes the fun out of the ride along with the giant potholes

Arkansas had great roads last time I was there

Roads in NJ are bad but there are road in NY that were just horrendous. Several years back my daughter had a soccer tournament well up The Throughway, I cannot remember the town, and I swear it was like driving on Braille.

Thankfully I've never had an issue with tar snakes, I'm not a fan of big painted arrows and other painted road signage.
