Well...the day is here....left Houston 6 am in my sons F450 superduty Ford truck headed to Amarillo Texas.  Big....really big...trailer....30' long and 13'6" tall race car trailer converted to a motircycle trailer.   Its me and my 2 grandsons hauling 7 motorcycles.  1 Valkyrie, 2 VTX's, 3 Harleys.   1 Harley on second level and the other 6 bikes on bottom level.   Got to Amarillo at 5 pm yesterday.  This morning we are headed to Ratin NM.   My son and 2 others are flying in to Raton Nm today about 5pm.  Airport says we can leave truck and trailer there on the grounds for the 4 days we are touring Colorado.   I know you mathmeticians are going "6 riders....7 bikes....my son brought his second Harley as a spare.....you know....good idea if you are going to ride Harleys.... just kidding."   Praying my 2001 Valkyrie with 132,000 miles holds up.   It will.   Just another couple thousand miles wont hurt it

Say a little prayer for me here.... got all my eggs in one basket here.... gonna be a trip to remember....

Ya'll will have a great time out there. I would love to make that out west trip one more time with my step brother. We did it a few years back. He left Albuquerque, I left Waverly,Tn., we met in Louisiana and headed North to South Dakota, then West from there. We hit several states, eventually arriving back in Albuquerque, then I headed home to Tennessee. We did a 21 day trip. It was great.  Ya'll have a good time, be careful, take tons of pics and share. Prayers for safe trip. :cooldude:

I'm drooling, y'all be safe!

I'm gonna need a pic of that trailer with everything in it, trying to picture a double decker motorcycle trailer in action?

Ya'll have fun and be safe!

I was planning to do a run out in that area with one of the triplets in July but I put that money in my mouth with a new crown instead...

And pics! Need pics!

I think you posted it earlier, but what's the itinerary? Maybe one of us Colorado riders might join you for a few miles.

Actually, the mathematicians among us are more likely wondering how 1 Valkyrie, 2 VTXs, 3 Harleys equal 7 motorcycles.  j/s ;)

Have fun on your trip.

Taking a ride up to Silverton is must while at Durango. Went there in December aka avalanche season. Kinda had a "Shining" feel about it  :)  but had a excellent lunch "downtown" and made it back to Durango right at dark. Such a beautiful sight looking down on the city. Stayed at the Best Western.

I been all over Colorado Rockies from 97' thru 16' but not on any of the bikes. Mt. Evans is a favorite trip but I believe there's construction on the road this season. Last time I went thru Rocky Mt. Nat'l park it was so friggin' crowded could hardly find a place to park @ the "donut shop"/tourist stop. Have a safe trip and enjoy.

We arrived in Raton Wednesday about 1pm and unloaded my Valkyrie and the two grandsons VTX's.  We wanted to get in a ride before the other 3 arrived by plane about 5 pm.   We headed over Raton Pass towards Trinidad CO and turned west on scenic byway 12.  Didnt get far and one of the VTX's started dieing every few miles so we turned around and went back to Raton with the VTX dieing every few miles.  Wait a minute and it would take off again.  We made it to an official Honda Motorcycle Shop in Raton that has been there for 51 years the owner said.  His mechanic agreed to take a look....(Surprised me).   He listened to what we told him and he laid down with a flashlite and shined up under the gastank and said "yep....just what I thought.   Your gas line frm your tank has a kink in it."   He got a long screw driver and a pair of needlenose and went to probing and said she should be ok now.   We paid the shop invoice and after a 300 mile day today she has run just great!!! Halliluyah!!!

This morning the 6 of us left Raton and came up through Red River to Eagles Nest (beautiful there) then Chama to Pagosa Springs to Durango.  Just ate supper and now off to bed.  All is well in the world tonight.

Curious, was the VTX kink factory installed or owner custom modification?

This morning our leader took us thru Silverton, Ouray,to Montrose. Beautiful in there.  Then to Gunnison for lunch where a local told us of a very scenic ride.  From Gunnison to Amond then hyway 740 to Buena Vista.  Very scenic 40+ mile ride.  Then north to Leadville where we are having a beer at The Legendary Silver Dollar Saloon built in 1879.  Doc Holiday ganbled here and played the piano some.   Jimmy Buffet once wrote a song while sitting in onebof the booths....cool.  Staying the night in Leadville

Geeeeez...... paid $25 per motorcycle for reservation in Rocky Mountain National Park for a "Day Pass".   Got here at 10:30 am and they turned us away because to go in between 9am-2pm you have to have a "Day Pass" AND a " Time Pass" that of course costs more.  Tried to buy a Time Pass but the park is sold out today so we are having to sit in a restaurant in Grand Lakes and go in after 2 pm

You might look into an America the Beautiful National Park Pass. The senior annual is $20 and lifetime is $80.  As of this year one pass is good for 2 motorcycles each with passengers to make it more comparable with an automobile.

Thanks all for the info. We hung around till 2pm and toured RNP.   It was great but wind was blowing so hard we were very carefull about parking at scenic locations.   Made it to Colorado Springs for the nite.  Kick stands up at 7:30am and back at the truck and trailer in Raton by 10:30am. We loaded up and my two sons and the friend got on their twin engine plane and 2 1/2 hrs later they were in Houston.  Me and the two gsons are in tow gonna spend tonight in Whichita Falls, Tx and we will be home tomorrow about noon.   Been an awesome trip.
