OK, maybe two things.

'97 plain-Jane F6C: Which of the exhaust outlet(s) are dummies, and which is/are active?

I get conflicting search results. Gooble says only 1, but other sources say 2.  I drilled all three baffles by about 1/2", forgot which is which, and after much screwing around with an evidently too-rich mixture, I'm contemplating re-capping off the two dummies, to see if it has any effect on the continuous backfire.  I think I've exhausted all other possibilities except rebuildivating the carbonaters.

So is this AI search response correct?  I don't want to elevate back pressure too much and blow the exhaust gaskets or start a global thermonuclear holocaust.

Danke...

I have cobra exhaust on mine so I can't look but I was unaware of there being dummy outlets in the stock exhaust. Anyway if you want to know which are functional, stick you finger in the hole. The one that turns your finger black from carbon is working. Especially if you have a rich condition it should be really black.

AI lies 90% of the time.

All three exhaust pipes are active.

As 98 valk said,  they are all active.  Plugging any will not work out very well.  Your backfire is a carburetor or vacuum problem
