Trunk Swap

I recently bought a '97 Tourer and have been loving it but I could really use the hauling space afforded by the trunk on the Interstate model. I have been watching eBay and see I can pick up a trunk box for around $350-500 depending on the condition. How difficult of an install is that? Just bolt on and connect up some wires for the lights to start working? Has anyone done this?

The saddle bag mounting bracket are different but can be swapped out once the I'state brackets are obtained. The box mount brackets attach to the fender brackets. I don't know about the electrical.

The easiest and cheapest would probably be to buy an aftermarket tour pack and bolt it to a luggage rack.  If you want it to look like an Interstate, you'll need to buy the fender struts from an Interstate and then mount a Interstate tour pack. Finding all the used OEM parts will probably be difficult and costly.

No, you don't need to replace the fenders only fender struts,  Interstate fender struts run out the back to mount the tour pack.  Tour's and Standards don't.

By fender struts, he means the chrome horizontal piece the saddle bags mount on.

If you want to use an I'state trunk you'll need these from an I'state. It has studs to mount the trunk brackets. An example from ebay.

You get the whole trunk mounting brackets. But I'm trying to point out the part that mounts to the fender.

If I were to go this direction, I would do a "Super Valk" mod to the trunk brackets, if you intend to install and remove it often..

And don't forget that the tour bag lids will not open with a trunk mounted. I/S lids come off instead of hingeing upward
