I'm finally going through stuff in the garage that needs to either be tossed or sold, I'm finding stuff I forgot I had...this is one. My grandson had no idea what it was or how used...he's 26.

I never had one. Always used a beer can opener.

I had a high school friend who had a VW that used a lot of oil. He had limited funds, and didn't like to spend 50 cents for a quart of oil. A self service gas station sold oil. They gave you one of those spouts and when you were finished adding it to your engine, you placed the can and spout in a bucket to drain. He used oil from that bucket to top up his VW. He didn't care about brand or viscosity!

I still have one.  I didn't buy it as an antique, I bought it new and used it.  Just haven't used it much lately.

Can't post a picture of it right now but I have one similar but you sat the can in it and squeeze a handle to puncture it and add the oil.  Asked a guy that owns his own mechanic shop now if he knew what it was and he finally guessed it but he had never seen one.  I also have approximately 6 cans not bottles of Quaker State brand new.

I used to use it from a local Shell station that I frequented. We called it "Catch Oil".

    i seem to reccollect the one Dad had and I'd used a couple times had a rubber gasket where the can and the WHAT Tapper? met. I had found one-long gone-which was mostly plastic but the sharp pointy thing was metal. Yuppers tapped a bunch of those old 1 quart round oil cans!    RIDE SAFE.

I used one of those babies a lot while working in a Moble gas/service station in the early 70's.

We still were offering to check the oil and clean the windshields while filling the tanks.

The good old days, I guess 🙄

I remember the rubber gaskets and the special drain bucket that had the place to put the can opener/spout in for draining.
