One quick question: I would like to upgrade my ICM with the Interstate's one. Should I still be looking for one from the Californian Interstate for my desmogged California standard Valkyrie, or will getting one from the 49 states Interstate's ICM work just fine?

I was told that the cam timing and duration is different on California Valkyrie...

any I/S ICM can be used.  install the I/S carb slide springs for better MPG

 I/S carb slide springs

Is it the part I circled in red in the parts diagram attached?

Dirty Dave

I found better throttle response with the IS springs.

Rode with an IS ICM in my 97 standard for years and went back
to the original last season. For some reason I like it (std) more.

It's weird being the same age as old people

My '97 Tourer has IS ICM and carb springs. Also Dynajet needles. Love the throttle response. MPGs are around 33+ all the time.

Dynajet needles are much richer than the OEM needles. FactoryPro needles are in between.  it will run better and better mpg with the OEM needles.

The throttle response u like is from the higher low torque due to the too rich needles and will have lower HP in the top end.

I should have added that DJ recommends the 3rd notch down. I set mine on the 2nd notch which leaned them and the bike runs well with no exhaust smell of fuel.

DJ set on leanest notch are still richer than OEM. will run better with OEM unless u have air box mods and a high velocity 3 into 2 exhaust system.
