Fisrt off; please forgive me for not doing a search (me and search features don't get along too well) but I'm at work and quite busy.

I need a stock air filter and the local Honda dealer doesn't have one. 

Where I can I get one online?

If I order on Tuesday (before 2:00), My dealer will usually have it in on Friday.  You won't get much faster on-line, but you may save a buck or two.  Directline (hdlparts.com) is a good source, but they are slow on most stuff.

BTW, don't expect to find much of anything for a Valk on the shelf at the dealer, or anywhere else!

There is a dealer about 50 miles away that had two filters in stock (and cheaper than the local one) but I can't find the time to get there anytime soon.

You could ask the dealer to ship it to you.  If you go with HDL, make sure you call and ask if they have it on the shelf or if they have to order from Honda.  If they have to order, it can add a week to 10 days before they ship it.

I've been calling one of the two Honda dealers in my area. Their turn around time is much faster than HDL. If I order on a Monday, I usually get my parts before the weekend. I guess it all depends on how quickly you need the parts.

Thought about that but with the shipping would be about the same as the dealer here.

Yea, it would take a week through HDL and I got it ordered through the local dealer today and it should be here by Friday.

When I lived in Aiken, SC my local Honda dealer (Aiken Motorcycle) could get any part within 2 days and some parts the next day if I ordered early in the day.  This was at no extra charge but you did have to pay in advance.  I now live near Darlington, SC and if you order parts from the nearest Honda dealer (20-30 miles away) it takes a week to get anything.  Go figure.

I don't know if they carry the OEM air filter, but I got my K&N air filter last week from DennisKirk.com next day using standard shipping.

I have to vent that ordering parts online, or from the dealer, SUCKS. Everything takes 2 weeks, and the riding season here is about 4 months long. A couple of parts orders can eat a third of the summer...

Is it this bad with the other manufacturers or is it just Honda? Have they not heard of the great FedEx? Or the big brown? They both have this thing called "overnight shipping" which comes in real handy...guys are willing to pay a lot to have parts in hand the next day.

Funny how when I needed some parts from ness, they were in my hands the next day but some doo-dads from Honda, well hell better get the bicycle out, it's gonna be a while.

Go ahead and order the filter where you want.

Install it when you receive the filter or any time that is handy.

It's not like running with out oil - a dirty filter, get real. Haven't you been running with it like it is up to now.

The bike is apart now and it is a PITA to get to this filter!  So I don't want to put it back together and a short time later disassemble it again just for a filter.

It's not like running with out oil - a dirty filter, get real. Haven't you been running with it like it is up to now.

The bike is running like crap, whence the reason to dig into this thing to get it fixed! 
Now the old filter is not that bad so I'm sure it is not the problem but "see reason above" for why I want to get a new filter before reassembling.
