Did the cop have a stop sign?

If not, who had the right of way?

Seems to me if the officer had a stop sign and he
went through it he should be at fault.

The officer ran a stop sign. He was typing into his computer while driving. City of Austin put officeer back on street after a few days with no reprimand. RJ, please send an email using the links in the other string to the Austin City Council.

Hey shortie?

I've looked at that video several times and it looks to me like the biker had the sign,

If you look real close, when the officer is making his U turn, the street on his right has a stop sign for traffic runnic left to right, now, he has not changed direction again, and the next corner is where the accident happens.  I'd almost lay $$$$ the biker had a stop sign.

I'm still trying to see if their is a stop sign on the left side of the squad, which would be for the biker..

I didn't see a stop sign on either corner.   Under those conditions, it is usually the vehicle on the right with the right of way......Probably the reason Austin put him back on the street.........

To make these type decisions, you need ALL of the information, or you have to do a lot of digging before making harsh decisions..

Per the article, this occurred at the intersection of Magazine and Lamplight Village in Austin...

Pulling up that intersection in Google Streetview, you can see that Magazine St has stop signs in both directions, and Lamplight Village does NOT have a stop sign.

Here's a link to that intersection in Google Maps: http://tinyurl.com/32qash6

Drag the little yellow man on the left onto the street to bring up the street view so you can look around and see for yourself.

From my understanding, that the cop ran the stop sign was never questioned, he admitted it.
Never ask a geek 'Why?',just nod your head and slowly back away...

I did read a lot on this and that the officer ran the stop sign is a fact.

From the news article:

"According to the police report, Officer Dunn was putting notes in his computer when he realized he had rolled through a stop sign at the intersection of Magazine and Lamplight Village. As he rolled through the stop sign, Dunn struck a motorcyle ridden by 74-year-old Louis Olivier."  See this link: http://www.kvue.com/home/Police-release-video-of-officer-hitting-motorcyclist-97694484.html

The motorcycle had the right of way with no stop sign.  I hope you are not defending the right of a police officer to enter information into a computer while driving on a city street and running down a motorcyclist.  I am not a cop hater, but this particular incident shows the dangers of those in charge of enforcing the law being above the law they enforce.  Put Officer Dunn in a non-driving position or put him on a motorcycle patrol unit, but letting him continue to drive and endanger innocent civilians is not a good option.
