So, I have some questions. I have a '99 Interstate.
1.  I need to fix the fork seals. Right one's leaking for about a year.
Is it necessary to remove the fairing?
2. starting to get a swish-swish noise in the rear when going slow( about 20-30mph). Also  some squealing. I'm thinking the shaft drive needs to be lubed.
3. Just bought a Big Red jack for the bike. where can I get the adapter? Followed some of the posts on here about a permanent one.
4. Any mechanics in the central NY area that can help? I want to do the work, but don't want to screw it all up.

search "valkyrie adapter" on ebay... a couple of the "stay on bike" ones are there now for about $29...

In order of listing
1.No you do not HAVE to remove it. Just pull the tire, and drop the forks. Lift high
2.I'm thinkin wheel bearings, Most likely the left side rear. Check the other stuff when it's apart.
3.There are some websites that they are available on, but, I don't know which ones. Look at Ebay. Maybe someone else will chime in.
4.I'm not sure if New York has a state board or not. Look on the home page under regional boards.

Finally use the search archive function for any info that you need for the parts you are working on. I can't believe that you could find any topic that does not have many threads on. If you have a specific question for anything, post on the board,and someone has fixed or helped fix the thing your are asking about. You  WILL get an answer fairly quick. Good luck

Do a search on bearings and you'll see a lot of opinions including mine.  Get your bearings at a bearing house and buy top tier bearings like SKF.  You get what what you pay for.  Puchase according to the cheapest price and you'll be replacing them again pretty soon.  Better yet go to Shoptalk and do the 5204 Bearing Mod.  http://www.valkyrieriders.com/shoptalk/5204_bearing_mod.pdf

The swish might be rear brake pads worn out. Check that before going any deeper in the rear end. And yes the forks come out without removing the fairing.

The swishing noise stops when when in gear and I pull the clutch in. But I do have the rear pads to replace also.

What kind and how much fork oil do I put into each fork?
Should I change the springs?
What do I use to lube the rear wheel gears?

Progressive springs are a big improvement over OEM.

Getting ready to get the parts for the forks.
From what I see on HDL parts page,  I need:
# 21Seal set
# 8 Back up ring
# 9 Guide Bushing
# 10 Slider Bushing.

Fork oil 10wt

Should I change the springs? Bike has just over 49k miles.

The "squealing" might just be an accumulation of brake dust.  Try washing your Valk first and see if it goes away.

I am the new  NY State Rep. since Dino has dissapeared for many years now

When it was time to do the fork seals I rode over to the DalaiLama's but he is in Connecticut

He said that when you do the seals put the new ones in the freezer first so they go in real easy. You can go on Dag's website and the instructions for fork seal change are in the honda manual he has online  You can make the special tool with pvc pipe, cut it lengthwise and use duct tape to hold the 2 pieces together

The closest folks to you would be BigD and the Inspector over towards Buffalo

Make sure you put the seals in the Correct way, they will leak if you happen to put them in backwards.  (Don't ask)
