Fair Warning to Political Posters

I thought on the fairly recent religious thread... we kept it pretty civil.  I was VERY active in that one.  I guess it got a LITTLE bit dicey a couple times... but I didn't think it was too bad.

I love all you guys, Heathen or Jesus nut.  Liberal or Conservative.  (Although I have little use for either D's or R's right now).

Life is a grand adventure.  None of us are gonna come out of it alive.  Most of it doesn't REALLY matter anyway.

I've tried to be lenient to avoid the appearance of being unfair.  I see  now it was a mistake.  I'm at the end of my rope.

Posts that appear to me (I fully realize that's a subjective judgement.) to be only ridicule and intended specifically to provoke a cyber fight are likely to disappear without warning.

If I have to repeatedly remove posts from the same author, that member will get a vacation from posting.

After commenting on this and thinking about it for several days, I have to ask why this forum doesn't have a process for the members to rate posters.  Yes, it does make for something of a popularity contest but, it also put folks on notice that their lack of tact is not appreciated.  If a poster continues to demonstrate bad behavior, eventually he/she gets banned from the forum.  This system works very well on another forum I frequent.  It also makes the moderator's job much easier.  A rating bar with both positive and negative ratings showing almost always let's folks know where they stand with the group as a whole.  If the offender wants to stick around, they modify their behavior.

For example, I am an atheist. I don't hide it. And, I tend to get into spirited discussions because of it. Being in the ~20% minority, it wouldn't take much for the 80% majority, to have me banned. And no amount of "we wouldn't do that!" will convince me otherwise...

I think you are right in that a rating system will simply create a "mob rule" atmosphere on this forum, and would eventually establish only one clique being able to post anything.  I hope this board doesn't do that, since doing so would force it to settle into mediocrity.

Abide by the rules, and you and your posts remain...don't, and they won't. That is NOT a decision by "majority rules", as is basing it on a ratings system. It's the basic difference between a police force, and a vigilante force...

If the people making the decisions about what's appropriate can tell the difference between "expressing your opinion" or "being a dick to someone else", then I'm fine with behavior modification.

Just don't be a dick to others, and we should all get along fine.

Like any other disagreement it depends on how you approach the subject.

I for one appreciate a spirited discussion.....

But, when it deteriorates into nothing more than a name calling contest it is no longer a discussion.

MOST of the people on this board have no trouble understanding that concept.

I feel certain that your being an atheist would not cause others to attempt to ban you from this board.

Once again, as pointed out on page two:

I don't believe he was criticizing Willow's post - he was merely pointing out that some have carried things too far, resulting in the NEED for Willow's post - NOT that Willow's post was offensive. But, I could be wrong...

Now, isn't THAT a fine kettle of fish?

In MY opinion, all the YELLING and SCREAMING, and the rest of the post, might just be out of order, a bit...personally, I don't see how anyone could think that Willow's post was "off the deep end", but then again, guess I'm easily fooled. Seems there were at least two people that thought that...

You seem to be missing the story line here.  You will have to go back a long, long way to find a political post that I have initiated.

Judgments don't have to be 'elevated'.  You clearly don't understand (my judgment) the four components of a conversation.

a)  Data - The circumstances - Example:  You said you would pick me up at 5:00 PM and did not show up until 6:00 PM.  Just the facts.

b)  Feelings - I am angry/sad/glad/mad - Example:  I am pissed off that you did not show up when you said you would.  How I FEEL.

c)  Judgments - How do I perceive my data and feelings? - Example:  You just don't give a sh*t about me, otherwise, you'd not show up late.

d)  Wants - What I want - Example:  I want you to commit to get off your ass and be on time when picking me up.

So:

a)  My (and everyone else's) opinion is always a judgment.  If I call someone a dimwit, it's not a fact, it's not name calling, it's a judgment. 

b)  My 'constant BARAGE (sic) of insults'?  Mebbe you ought to go back and review my posting history.  I've been very selective about the people I have insulted... if you want to call it that...   I dont know but you guys are funny. This is not a democratic website never has been never will be. I am constantly amazed at Willow and the other powers that be to have tolerance and the patience of saints. I have no problem being under there decision making in fact thank you to the big controlling powers for not only all you do but for tolerance and just plain wisdom. They have proven time and again that they are not looking for a hammer but a way to guide or delete some discussions that have gone south. You know, I've stopped from replying to you in threads I read, I've even stopped posting in threads that you have joined into for ALL of the reasons you posted above.

A) Data - I've seen you twist data around specifically to attack people.
B) Feelings - You take NO ONE ELSES feelings into consideration when you post.
c) Judgement - You have made judgements about people that are so off and so nasty, based on what they've posted about a completely different topic, and, that you were never even asked for.
D) Wants - The only thing you want it to try to prove yourself superior.

SO:

A) CALLING someone a dimwit is not name CALLING.  No comment.
