1986 Goldwing Part

My brother has a very nice 1986 Goldwing which is in mint condition. However, Saturday his fuel pump quit and a new one from the dealer is $182.00. Anyone know where to get one cheaper? I suppose he would even take a used one. TIA. Hef

I was riding a 85 Aspencade and kept a booklet of non OEM parts that could be used. Got most of the ideas from the GWRRA tech bd. Of course I have no idea where the book is now but I do remember a posting about using a elec. pump available at Auto Zone and similar outlets. The pump they chose had adjustable pressure which they wanted to set the fuel pressure at stock or lower.
Sorry I can't be of any real help but there are answers out there for a fix.

I don't know off hand...we got it on the road at an auto parts store (beat walking). He's been running it for near 10 years.

same thing happened to a friend, there are aftermarket fuel pumps that do well
hit a couple wing forums to find what others have used-I did but didn't save the link-anyway, seems there are several alternatives (none are chrome like stock) but 30 bucks was a typical cost.
am surprised the dealer could get one, our local couldn't

The pressure they list at the bottom...35-40 psi is WAY high for carbs...that's a number for fuel injected. I would think 3 psi is more than enough for carbs...

An after market electric pump is the way to go, but I can tell you from experience that the Facet pump is one noisy critter and will drive you nuts clicking. The electric fuel pumps off the 1100 shadows are about $60.00 cheaper than the Wing pump

DO NOT use the above 35-40 psi fuel pump.      That is the pump on the 1985&86 Fuel injected SE's that Honda built for 2 years.

Anything over 3# on a carb is almost too much pressure.   Start around 2.5# on an electric pump and go from there.

I'm looking for my substitute link for older Gold Wing replacement parts.   I got it somewhere.  I have an electric pump part # from Advanced Auto if I can find it.   About a $30 pump back then.  Probably around $50 now.
