Dragonriders,

OK, I give up.  I have wasted several hours looking for bolt on turn down tips for my 01 Valkrie.  I found some for a GL1800 Gold Wing but I beleive they are five inch diameter, too big.  The Air FLow chrome 4 X 18 turn down tips are too long.  If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it.  Thanks in advance, Les

I put a set 18" air flows on for friend of mine. tape up the pipe, cut to the length you want and drill one hole for the retainer. touch up the  cut edge with silver paint, Good to go. The air flow has good quality chrome and does not flake when cutting. But I guess that would not be bolt on then.

Challenger,

I thought of that but figured I would screw up the cut.  What did you cut them with ?  How do you get a straight accross cut ?

I had a pair made at  mandrelbendingsolutions.com  I had to talk the guy through what I wanted, how long, and when they came in I had to have them chromed. I had mine made of stainless Steel and wouldn't do that agian because some places won't chrome SS, I'd just get the steel ones. All you need is a 4" ID and have them cut and bent to what you want. They cost me around $125 ( for the SS ones ) and another $60 to have them chromed. I also used my factory tips and lined up the holes, marked them, and drilled them. If the holes were misaligned a little, I just used a dremmil to slot them some, and they worked.
I hope this helps.

check your local semi truck parts place. these are 4"x18" turnouts, you have to supply the hole. wasnt too bad to do, still looks good too. make sure you clip the piggies and bore the baffles. i went 1/2" drill bit.

Chop saw with a metal cutting blade. If the pipes you use have good chrome quality the cut will be clean. :cooldude:

"clip the piggies and bore the baffles"  ONLY if you want it louder. :) :)

if you "clip the piggies" leave about 1 1/2 in on the baffle so you can put them back if you don't like it.
fixing the bore hole in the baffle is more involved.

one step at a time. :)

Oh crapo, I got my turn downs so long ago they done did serve their purpose and then I went to straight backs.

Turn downs, you will get a lot of noise from them bouncing sound off of the pavement.  Ride behind a pair before ya spend the $$$$$.

I went to a Truck (Tire & rim) store here locally.    At that time you could buy the 12" pipe, now I believe the shortest one is a 18" or a 24", not sure on that.

If you have a good friend who works or owns a muffler shop, they can cut it to length for ya, and maybe drill it also for a small fee.

I wrapped a buddies of mine with masking tape before we did the chop saw cut.  Run a dremil over the burs left, dipped it into the paint can, wiped off the sides and left to dry.      I had my turn downs on for over 90,000 miles, and then they went to Michigan to someone who I have lost him name, for cost of the freight of the complete system.

I cut mine with a fine tooth hacksaw blade and just took my time so there was no blueing of the chrome.
