Today will be day 5 for me. I will be 60 in October and have been smoking 45 years. I've tried to quit quiet a few times and always failed. After reading all your posts I feel like it is a group thing and feel I can now quit.

I hadn't read this thread for awhile and it is just fantastic to see everyone stop smoking and how much time has past since that last one. Not sure which post said it but as a former smoker I take it one day at a time ... today. For those struggling .... I can assure you that you are not the only ones that have struggled for I too struggled early on which is when I just wanted to go another 15 minutes ... and then another 15 minutes ... and then ... well you get the idea. You are trying to give up the most addictive drug there is ... nicotine ... you Can do this .... You Can Not Smoke .... one day at a time.

Congratulations to all the quitters.  I'm still one of the group.  Today is day 11 for me.

WOW! You're heading into week two! It's not all downhill, but it's not uphill for sure!

Keep up the great work. On day at a time. One minute at a time sometimes!

Day 22, it gets  better everyday. Very hard to stop doing something you have done for 34 years. But if you make up your mind, you can do it. I could never do this before, but for some reason i can do it now. Don't know how or why, but i will just go with it and move on. I did get a ride in yesterday and i am planing on a nice ride tomorrow. Good luck to all those that have quit. You can do it.
I just wanna Ride............:)  And hang out with all the cool Kids riding Motorcycles.

Nice thing about quittin', you can up your mileage on a day run so much because you don't need to be stopping ever hour to suck one down.

Just free's up you life for riding and living!

When wife & I realized we were preggers for our eldest daughter, I decided to quit. 2-3 days later, I notice she wasn't smoking either, I asked...Did you quit smoking? she said yeah, did you? We've been smoke free ever since. (32 years) none of our 3 daughters smoke either, thats the "home education" I'm proud of.
Good luck to all the quiters. Prayers are with you.
Here's me while smoking...

I'm on week three (17 days completed).  I agree with SteveL, it's not all downhill, but more more downhill than uphill.

I'm not sure about one day at a time.  I think the secret for me was that I will never smoke again.  I now think of myself as a non-smoker.  I think positively of my future as a non-smoker.  I always remember what my mother said when she quit many years ago: "I was spending my entire day wishing I was not where I currently was, but instead somewhere I could smoke."

That said, whatever works is good.

Michael K (Az.)

I was just thinkin, it's been about a month for you I believe! Cool!
My Sis says she just can't justify payin the $$'s anymore for her smokes so when she says she's ready and committed to quitting I'll post it on the board for her to read.
This is one big azzed support group for sure and it will be good for her to get involved.
Some folks say "one day at a time", some say,"I'm a non-smoker", but whatever hits your comfort zone is the one to use! Good luck everybody!!

Great to see so many of you quittin' the cigs!

Whatever works for you is whatever works, and just go with what feels comfortable. Putting yourself in the solution is a great way to go.

For anyone that has picked back up, just remember the only failed quitter is one that's 6 feet under. I quit hundreds of times before I finally quit for good. (and I still don't say that overly confidently, lest I get too seccure).. just consider the other quits as practice for the next one.

No shame in having to start again with this monster. Everyone knows it's not easy.

20 DAYS     :D   :D   :D

36 Days for me...I was wondering if you was still not smoking Dag  :cooldude:    Its very hard at times for me but I know if I even smoke one it will be right back... Wonder how Sugarbee ( Donna ) is doing since she is the one that started this thread ???

I've seen alot of people that thought they were cool , but then again Lord I've seen alot of fools.

Dag

One symptom that appears is the urge to eat more, resulting in unwanted weight gain.  Food tastes better... my senses of taste and smell improve, allowing me to experience the taste and smell of food.

Hmmm.. how Sugarbee is doing? If we dont hear anything I belive she`s still smoking.

I've shared my story about my wife and I walking into the hospital 36 days ago and how we both flipped one in the bush as we entered and that was the last one for both of us.Well its sad to say but she has gained weight like a elephant eating peanut butter   :-[  She will not tell me but I'm guessin she has added well over 20 lbs in 36 days  :-[

The day after i quit smoking, 34 years of it. I started walking, it gave me something to do and i did not want to just sit around. Some days i walk a couple of miles and some days i do more. If i don't feel like walking, i don't. But most of the time i do, right after supper i throw a jaw breaker in my mouth and take off. I am fifty years old and i guess i have been so busy with work and everyday life i just never noticed what was really around me. Why there are kids playing, people working in their yards, and even a couple of ass holes that ride by me and yell nasty things at me, lol. I just laugh and keep walking, little punks don't know this old man can still whoop some ass if need be. Anyway its my way of helping me through this. I love to ride, but this walking thing is pretty cool also.  8)
I just wanna Ride............:)  And hang out with all the cool Kids riding Motorcycles.

Congrats to all you quitters! It's been (Well, look in my signature) since my last smoke... And I still want one sometimes....

But, so far so good...  :cooldude:

You guys are all doing awesome!!

Great to hear the success stories!

I gained a few pounds too. Gaining a bit of weight makes us healthier, and it comes of after a while as the appetite setttles down.

unforturnately I have not done as well as most of you....I usta think I could quit at any time...it is very hard for me, I had not realized just how strongly I relied on these darn things....every day I wake up and say, today...no more cigs....then, out of no where I get the craving.....or my boss makes me mad, or my co-worker talks my ears off, or blah blah blah, excuses I guess

I will beat this....I just looked at a pic of a smoker's lung....not a pretty sight at all

any way, so, I started the thread with good intentions, but have been failing....I am glad that so many others are strong and hanging tough....today's a new day and I can try again....

Sugarbee, I want to thank you for starting this. I have wanted to quit for so long and just didn't know how. I still don't know how it worked this time. All i know is that i will not let it beat me, i guess after a couple of days i decided that if i can go a couple of days, i can go as long as i want. So maybe it's just that i want it really bad. It is not easy and i would never say it is. Long walks and jaw breakers is what go me through 35 days of smoke free. Thank you again, good luck.
I just wanna Ride............:)  And hang out with all the cool Kids riding Motorcycles.

Same here Sugarbee.  It has been a month for me and your post was a part of my motivation.

Don't worry about a relapse.  You will quit when you are ready.

Kamikaze VRCCDS#0119

I've been a "former smoker" for a month now... time to start the 2nd month. I mark it as progress... I've gone from 1 day at a time to 1 week at a time and now 1 month at a time... soon it'll be 1 year at a time!!!
It's not WHAT you ride... it's THAT you ride!

I qiut a few years ago, but what you guys are doing is great.  It is really cool that you have such a large support group.  Keep screwin' the government out of your tax money, and you'll make better time on the road.

Ok Today is day NUMBER 1 for me.... But so far all I have is a bad case of the dizzies....And I am tired..... >:(

vanagon40

Hey,

You gotta have a day one before you can have a day three or week four.  Some folks need more than one day one (keep trying).

Congratulations.  You have a lot of folks pulling for you.

Keep us posted on the progress.

Rachel

We made it to Day 2 without killing each other or the kid.  Had to go to bed very early.  Looking forward to the day when we aren't so tired and dizzy!

36 days and I have not had any problems.........   :coolsmiley:
