What is your typical gas mileage?

I went 208 miles on my Rat Rod Valk today before having to switch to reserve. I went another 6/10 ths of a mile before I filled the tank, and that was 4.9 gallons.

I had previously gotten 40+ MPG, but this last tank full calculates to greater than 50 MPG.

I have a spacer under the front of my tank, so that may contribute to the extended range at the pick-up tube. I also did the "simple ECT Mod", but I don't think that would contribute much if any improvement in mileage.

I'm not complaining, but it seems that my mileage is improving with age and accumulated miles. Seems weird,.....doesn't it?

I go to reserve on my 97 tourer at about 115. Recently, I made it to around 130 going the speed limit
on the BRP...

I averaged 32mpg on my trip last weekend....but it was mostly rose sniffing speeds(there was that ONE time when I passed a line of cars on a long straightaway...I didn't go faster than 1o2)...but less than 30 when it's "fun" time......closer to 28mpg then

I usually fill up around 150-160.....stretched it out to 175 on my last tank full...still had maybe a half gallon before I'd have been into my reserve.....

Funny you bring this up....this past weekend I hot 199 miles on my I/S without hitting reserve...when I filled up, 4.6 gals...typically she takes 5.1 to 5.2 gals at that mileage...mixed riding...some times 85 to a slow 65...

I've heard different capacity numbers for a Standard tank. I always thought it was 4 +1, as mine seems to support, but some say 5.4 or 5.7....

2000 Interstate, fast black, I hit reserve today at 241.  Fueled up about 6 miles further down the road and took 6.1.

I believe that standards and tourers have 5.3 gallon tanks and the Interstates have 6.9 gallon.

Not to question your math Momz, but 208.6 miles per 4.9 gallons is around 42.6mpg...steller for a Valk...not quite 50mpg, though.

On a good day I'm at 32mpg.  Been as high as 36mpg and as low as 16mpg. (A combo of ethanol and major head wind caused that!)

Have hit 52mpg on  a couple of tanks riding through the Smokeys, many tanks I hit 40 - 48 mpg.

Daily commute (12.5 miles) I average around 33mpg.

Anything over 30 is a prompt for extra smiles with my 99 I/S   Loaded (2 up, full bags) this weekend, heading to the panhandle of Texas I got as high as 35 and as low as 28.   I was running a bit over 70 and fighting a head wind on the way back.. which prompted my lower than 30 mpg reading.  As a side note, I was running premium, with 6 degree trigger... and had B12 in the first tank.

My old I/S did much better, consistently 35+ and low 40's.   I got 42 mpg out of this I/S one time in Colorado cruising at high altitude....go figure.

I am about to pull my carbs and check intake o-rings... its been a while.

I get 27-32 on the standard, and 30-35 on the IS.

The Standard DOES seem to be getting better mileage lately.  I think it's FINALLY getting through it's break in period.  I am about to turn 30K on it.

I'll get about 35mpg at 80 and 40mpg at 55.  No apreciable change in 80,000 miles.

It has been consistently in the 32 - 38 range in all my miles.

My worst was 17 coming across SD with the trailer in tow.  We won't go into details, you can figure it out.

Best was just tooling along in some back roads in Indiana.    Got 44, but I never got too much above 40 MPH either.    

Overall avg since new is, 38.6 in 242,338 miles.     Those of you that knock, Ethanol 10%, 80% of the fuel gone through MGM has been that rotten sheet as ya'll call it.    I get better performance out of Ethanol, AND BETTER gas mileage.

My ride is a 2000 Standard. Interstate riding, she sucks the gas. Two lane scenic riding the best I have done is 38 mpg. Average is probably around 32-34.

I'm looking at a Honda spec sheet for the 1999 Standard which states a total fuel capacity of 5.3 gallons which includes a 1.1 gallon reserve.  I'm assuming these figures are the same for your 1997 Standard.

I get about 80 to 85 mpg riding the Dragon at an average of 115 mph.

I once ran a test of running 50 mph for 100 miles.
Got such great milage, had to stop 1/2 way and siphon some gas out to keep the tank from running over.

Standard with windsheild, soft bags, 6x6 pipes and the 6 degree trigger wheel. I hit reserve at 125 mi. every time.  Unless you play the take your time to fill it game.  This is the hardest bike i have ever had to top off.

I have my carbs balanced, reset the pilot screw according to manufacturer specs, Interstate Springs, Electric timing mod, and Interstate ICM.

Almost always when I get into the upper 40 (46-48) and low 50's (52mpg x3 tanks) I was always riding with a Harley rider. AKA   S.O. Average speed about 50mph.
I let my wife set the pace when we ride together. Other tanks were on group rides with HD's.

I've gotten low 40s driving down the coast line admiring the beaches and scenery.

Just filled up today. 38mpg.

I have found that riding longer distances increase mileage significantly.  Short hopes like in a car burns a lot of fuel. My drive to work is 12 miles, it takes nearly half that for the bike to warm up properly.

Well tuned standard, with clean carbs. Ridden at 60 to 65 with constant throttle.
Shift early, and take advantage of the torque during acceleration. Properly inflated tires.
Just cruising.

It is really that simple.

I have a 99 Tourer with 83,000 miles on the clock.  K&N w/o prefilter, 6degree wheel, interstate springs, other than that, no major mods.  My commute is 21 miles one way with an altitude change of 2,500 feet.  I regularly get 44 MPG.  Bear in mind that the speed limit on my commute keeps me well below 3,000 RPM.

Valkyrie 2001 Interstate 50,000 miles on Synthetic Oil and Corn Whiskey in the Gas 31MPG.

But it looks good doing it at about 90 mph.

Like I said, when I was getting those 50+ mpg tanks they were in the Smokey's following the S.O. on her HD.  She was down shifting going up the hills, I was pulling the in 5th with no problems. Then we got to the top then it was down hill where I was down shifting to slow the bike down. So yes I did a lot of down hill coasting...   Average speed was around 40-50 or what ever the posted speed limit was.

I get 18 to 38 mpg. 100% dependent on the angle of the dangle !  If I'm riding with the wife on her  Harley I can almost get 40. If I'm trying to catch Fudgie I may have to stop for fuel every 75 miles!

2002 Standard, been averaging 36-38, I am unable to stay out of the throttle. I know the Valk is capable of mileage in the 40's...but I'm not. This past weekend, hit reserve at 155, fueled at 195, took 5.2 gallons. I was glad to see that gas station!

My worst was about 29mpg. My best was 40mpg. I get better milage two up with gear, probably because I'm riding mellow/responsibly.
 My worst is always riding solo, with the guys, I tend to horse around more and twist the throttle more.

I'm NOT calling anyone a liar. PLEASE don't take it that way, but I just can't believe ANY Valkyrie, no matter how it's set up, or carrying, or even with a strong wind at its back can possibly get 50+ mpg. No way.  I find even one getting over 40 hard to believe, but a number of folks claim that, so. . . .  ok.  I "can" get 36 – 37, but normal riding is consistently 33ish. (99 Standard  with a little extra)
