Has anyone ever ridden highway 1 from Seattle to San Diego (or vise versa)?  That's would be my dream ride!!  Maybe, if I get fired, or laid off again, I'm telling the wife that I'll be gone for a few months, and head out west!!

I've looked at that route using http://www.bing.com/maps/ and I realize that it would take quite a while to ride that whole stretch!!  I guess the worst part would be riding across the flat lands were you ride for miles seeing nothing but a few billion power lines, and fence posts!!  But think about the beauty you'd see once you're there!!

If I had a "bucket list" that would be in there.

Check these pics out.  3 Buddies of mine recently came down from northern Ca to ride with me.  Down 1 then across to desert.  10 hours and sore a$$, but great ride.  :cooldude: :cooldude:

I've ridin all of the California hwy 1. This is truly a ride that everyone should do. Soon I hope to do Oregon and Washington as well. Go for it, you won't regret it. it's a beautiful ride.

I did that ride, but it was back in the early 80s. Washington and Oregon was pretty, but not very twisty. There are state parks about every few miles in Oregon. I camped in a lot of those. The CA part, after it goes to the coast, is a blast. If you're not in a hurry, it is just a fantastic ride. If you can hit So. Cal. part at a non busy time (3AM???) it would be better ;-)
I ride a motorcycle because nothing transports me as quickly from where I am to who I am.

Rode it when I was in the service and as a CHP.

Plan on an average MPH of about 45 and that is pushing it in places.

Beautiful ride, but don't do it on a hard tail.

I should clarify that, it was only California.   NO freeways yet.

You are aware it is just a shade over 1,000 miles down the coast line from Cresent City, CA to Imperial Beach, CA.

Those pictures from Pashnit should not be allowed on this forum!  Now I'm going to have to join Alph in a quest to get out there and do it!  ;D

Well, alph, and jetdriver.  Get Nitro, and we will make a trip out of it!

Great ride, highly recommended, do it if you can. Have only done the part from LA to San Fran.

Up around Big Sur you will see signs warning  about rock slides.

They will take on real meaning when you round a curve and the rocks on the road are still rolling.

So ride carefully, as it is a ride to enjoy not to "race".

I rode it through parts of Washington, Oregon, and into NorCal last Spring.  I've driven by cage from San Diego to just short of San Francisco.

It'll be a great ride.  Who can we call to get you fired?   ;)

I visited Muir Woods when I was stationed in SF during the Korean Conflict and then that whole territory from Sausalito to almost San Jose was one of my CHP assignments.   65 of us covered that territory.

Beautiful country beforee the super slabs were laid down.

My partners and I hangout during rush hour was Bay Shore Boulvard, (hwy 101) at South City.   About where the ball park is now.

The wife and I have ridden from Bodega Bay on hwy 1 to Leggett and hwy 101 to Seattle. Loved every minute of it. Hwy 1 is a lot twistier. In Oregon & Washington the weather can change from warm and sunny to wet and cold in less than an hour so be sure to pack your raingear. Wind is an issue at times so be aware. Forks Wa gets more rain than just about anyplace on earth...LOL (that's where the Twilight Series of books is based on). Tons of things to see and do. We suggest stopping at all the visitor centers you see. Great local/inside information about tourist and non-tourist stuff. Great seafood! If you would like contact us to chat more about riding in the northwest feel free to drop us a line. Pics are all on 35mm and we haven't gotten them scanned into the computer yet.

5 & 1/2  yrs ago i rode it on my Valk from just outside of san diego to the end of PCH 1 then took hwy 101 up thru ave of the giants. Awesome life altering trip!! If your able take it youll enjoy it. Just south of Big Sur is Julia Phiffer Burns state park stop there and walk the lil trail that goes under the road towards the ocean look to your left and youll see a waterfall cascading onto the beach.  Oh and just inside ave of the giants to the right is a buger place that had Great food and awesome cocnut cream pie...     Kendall

I live one mile off of Highway 1 and just off the ocean.  You are talking about my weekend rides.  Apart from the loonies in RVs and cages, it is a great ride.  The temps can change radically and quickly, but the scenery is spectacular.  It is slow, but if you take it easy and enjoy it like you would a Sunday ride with your kid on the back, it is well worth it.  Let me know if any of you are passing thru Monterey.

We just rode it from San Diego to San Fransico in September.  A lot of the time it was foggy, but still a great ride.  The weather was great.
