I set up a google map with all the remaining "Everywhere Texas" locations on it.  I'll delete them as they are acquired.  Some of them don't have actual towns, so I had to wing 'em, like Alameda Park is actually a park in Weslaco, but here 'tis...

Nice work, Mark!

There was some talk at one time of the DFW riders doing an Iron Butt to Van Horn and back. That would be one way to get the Van Horn shot. ~Jeff

Super Santa

Several questions on places you have marked on the map.

Many of them, Microsoft Streets and Trips does not recognize.  I have also utilized Handbook of Texas Online http://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/online/search.html and find it can be helpful in trying to locate some of these places.

However, I am sure you have spent a lot of time trying to identify all of the places and as such our job is to try to find some identifying marker to photograph a Valk next to so that we can add it to the collection of phyn photos of phat ladies all across Texas.

One specific is Angelina, Texas:  Handbook of Texas shows it non-existent now.  Was located about 8 miles north of Lufkin.  You show it possibly (?) as a park in the town of Huntington about 10-12 miles E-SE of Lufkin.

Anyway, any suggestions on trying to isolate some of these vague locations?

Some corrections are pending, but suggestions as to a resolution of something we can't locate are most welcome. There's no hard and fast rule here, we're just getting pictures.

Something on the page not right?  A town named or spelled wrong? Watch the video or poke around the net, find an alternate, and propose something. We're easy. Send me an email or post here. I'll make the suggested corrections with the next update!

I found a listing for Angelina Community College.  I suppose from your comment that once upon a time I found a park labeled Angelina.  That tells me that there are still some relics from the non-existent town.  It seems that the historical association site could help in locating those.  I think anything with the town name on it, even if the town doesn't exist anymore should count (as long as it's supposed to refer to a town by that name.  "Angelina's BBQ" in Temple doesn't count for old Angelina near Lufkin.)

Apparently I missed an "everywhere" update.  That map has now been updated.

Mark,

This is Mike, met you at Tinman's wrench party (my Valk was the "project").

Had a thought for the Google maps of Everywhere Texas. How about showing the locations that have photos with a different color (red?), then everyone can still see where the locations are.

And a typo correction, on the page of location photos, Rockport not Rockoort...

Also, I headed out to Del Rio for about 4 months to build fences. Trailering the Valk with me  :-[, too much stuff to carry on it. But I 'spose the Victory & Kaw guys will be a good enough excuse for me too :P. Hopefully the work schedule will give me the chance to get some of the distant Everywhere pics. Val Verde and Bracketville should be a cinch. We're supposed to be making 6-12's, so further we'll just have to see. Maybe if the DFW folks make the Iron-Butt ride when I can get away... Hope to see notices posted on that if/when it happens.

Hey all,

We were riding up around Bastrop this weekend (side note, Bastrop Park Road 1C is a gorgeous ride) and decided to scoot down to Summerville and grab that picture.  As it turns out, Summerville (interchangibly spelled Sommerville on GPS's, Google and the internet) unincorportated years ago.  However, after much riding around and stopping and talking to the locals, we tracked down a Sommerville Farms sign and grabbed the pic.  :)  Daniel, it's on its way to you.

Thalas'shaya

Rose and I tried to get the "Post Oak" location down near College Station this morning.  It's either not there or not readily apparent.  We were in a time crunch, so we didn't meander around on the side roads looking for the sign.  Google maps only show the one location, but mapquest and yahoo both show 5 different "Post Oak" communities.  Some of those are out near Palestine and Paris, so they're not too far off from my dad's place at Lake O'The Pines.  We'll see about redeeming ourselves by finding a Post Oak next time we're out that way.
Thanks to the Interstate Highway System, it is now possible to travel from coast to coast without seeing anything. - Charles Kuralt

That's part of the "fun"/challenge of this.  I had a similar experience trying to get Round Lake last summer.  Keep trying.  Anything with the name will do.

Rainmaker, Thalas'shaya, and Speedo got it a couple weeks ago...on their way to see us at the Old Vic (and eat brownies)

Great job guys!

On a related note...there's only about 15 Everywhere Texas locations left to get...grab your camera, a Valkyrie or two, and let's knock 'em out!

Someone posted on the national board about the various "Valkyrie Street/Place/Court/Blvd/etc." that he found nationwide.  Out of 19 nationwide, 3 are in Texas.  There's no way we can pass that up.  I've added them to the Everywhere Texas map.  I think that a place can be found for them in the video.

Well I got Valkyrie place tonight. So I guess that finishes off the street signs. It was fun, gated community, slid the bike through the gap in the gate arms when security went on patrol. Sent it to Daniel so I guess it will get updated soon.

We need a picture of one or more Valkyries in front of some sign or universally recognized landmark.  The "now entering" sign is popular, as is the post office or the city hall.  If you can find something more creative that still makes it clear to anyone and everyone where you were, have at it.
We (or should I just say I) like creative.

Seems the Texas Chapter has some interesting projects going. I'm a bit late, to say the least, but would like to know how to join in on the picture taking and riding locations. Riding to and from any location to find anything interesting is what I like to do. The longer the ride, the fartherest out of the way I can go the better. Lost towns, ghost towns, historic towns, signs, you name it. Hope I'm not too late to add something.
                                       Thanks

If you are riding  and it is a must that you keep your eyes on the road, you are riding too fast.

Rocketman

Definitely not too late.  The project is to get pictures from very specific places.  However, if they're interesting enough, pictures from other locations could make it into the video.  A lot of the places needed have been picked up, but quite a few are still needed.

The main Texas page has a link off to the list of towns needed.  If there's a picture there, it's been achieved.  If not, go for it.  The first post in this thread has a link to a Google Maps page that shows the places remaining.  Some of those locations have proven to be elusive.  I've been to points listed on the map that didn't appear to actually exist, so some research may be in order prior to a trip.  Other than that, pick a spot on the map, grab your camera, and go for it.

Red Diamond

Thanks Rocket, I've been waiting for the weather to warm up a bit, couldn't wait any longer. Bought something to keep the legs a little warmer and tested the outfit this morning for about 100 miles. works pretty good. Now anything is possible, not going to let the cold keep me in any longer. I've got some hidden locations, hope no one beats me to um.

99 Red Diamond - It just so happens one of the cities we still need to get is Van Horn, Texas... Which... Just HAPPENS to be the closest city to this place:

Just in case it got lost in all the stuff, here's the listing of the cities we've got, and more importantly the ones we still need to get:

On the "Everywhere Texas" pics, does the file need to be reduced to below 100kb the same as the national to be submitted?

No.  Email them to Daniel Meyer.  His address is on the Everywhere Texas page at:

I don't know for sure, but he would probably prefer the full size versions.
