Kickstand doo-dah!

Seems to me the lean on my Valk is too far to the left... so being the good conservative I am... I am just curious... what's the best 'lil doo-dah for the kickstand to keep it from leaning too far to the left?

Suggestions?  Advice?  Political jokes?

Oh... and I already have a 2 X 4...

Has the rear suspension been raised? Is the cross arm under the swingarm bent from a bad sppedbump? First figure if you have/don't have a problem. There's a kickstand foot available which adds a few sq inches to the foot and some thickness to help. Check some of the acc sites for the foot.

Sandy... I've had the bike apart fairly recently so I don't think so, but I'll have a hard look at it tomorrow.  Just seems to lean MUCH further than the Goldwing and without a center stand I have to run it everyday just to burn the oil off of the cylinder tops...

And we all know how troublesome and pesky that can be...

Aside from shimming the kickstand pad with a piece of wood or a Rivco metal shoe, I think it is possible to disassemble the kickstand mount underneath, and add a washer or two somewhere to essentially move the mount down, so it puts the extended stand farther down, and holds the bike farther up.  I just went looking at HDL schematics, and the sidestand schematic is no help.

Caveat:  She is a great big heavy fat girl, so you so not want inadequate bolt threads holding the kickstand together (shimming a mount with a washer will mean less bolt thread depth in the boss).

I am particularly interested in this subject because I have two '99 Interstates, both with 13" 440s and PS fork springs, and one clearly leans over farther than the other on the stand.... inexplicably.  I have crawled under both bikes looking at the kickstands and mounts and can find no apparent damage, bends or modification on either bike.  It's a mystery........... and while it's not a huge deal, I wish the one that leans way over only leaned over as much as the other.  It's only really a few degrees, but it makes a difference.  

edit: I do recall I hung the Honda chrome sidestand on one and the other has the OE..... hmmmm.

So Jess is the one leaning more have the chrome sidestand or the OEM? I was thinking of getting one. I hope there the same length.

Well, they should be the identical length, and profile, but I have never actually checked them carefully.... and won't be doing it for a while in this cold weather (I can't even get between my bikes in the 10 X 12 shed).

The chrome kicker is on the full dress IS (leans way over), and the OE kicker is on the SV (IS with no trunk) (leans less over).  I have the original OE off the IS in my parts box, so I'll get it out and hold it up to the chrome one... someday when it thaws out.

Father-in-law had a rubber puck with a V slot in it to place under the stand when using it on hot summer days on asphalt. Another rider has a 1" metal foot attached.

I was thinking of an old hockey puck, slot it and place under the stand when, either when you park or mount it if it's not in the way.

add the permanent lift adapter and it will bring it up slightly..........same as shimming it but at least this way it has a purpose.

Yep, that kick stand never fails to amaze me with it's strength.

Both me and my girl, sitting and bouncing on the bike while on the stand surely will break the stand.

I can attest to this...my I/S has been lowered an inch both front and rear...plus I have the permanent lift adapter installed...my I/S sits very upright and once when I went out to the garage, it was laying on the right crash bar...and the culprit was a flat rear tire...

I think the answer to that is Yes and No.

There is nothing like a custom bike, even something as small as the kick stand.

I would take away from this that any changes, even something as simple as a kick stand, may have unforseen consequences, like the lean angle change, so if you have a flat or plant it on the wrong slope the bike may go over the other way.
