Upper Bushings on shock tower

Mine are worn out (thin on one side). I got some "OEM" ordered from Honda---2--5-days!!

Has anyone tried 5/8" I.D. re-in-forced heater hose (red) looks to be a good fit, both OD/ID. Just cut to length + .050" for compression?

Anyone got better ideas??

I had to replace my stock ones, and for the price stock bushings are not bad I guess.  I have a set of Gary's on my VTX and it didn't take long for them to get out of so called alignment on the top.

A buddy of mine just replaced his VTX bushings, ones he obtained from Gary a few years back, with ... get this....  hard nylon (like plastic) bushings he ordered from McMaster Carr.  He filed the taper off the inside of the shocks and put em in.  Seem to be working just fine..... and I am keeping my eye on them.

The heater hose option sounds interesting too.....  hose is cheap to keep on hand and cut fit em as needed.  Let us know how that works....

My 98 Tourer had 22K miles  when I bought her. Reading here about the bushings I checked and mine were worn real bad. Bought a set from Gary and have put 35K on them.  Had the shocks off last week and the bushings look fine.
Very good product.

I agree--the oem bushings are cheap. I had 86k on mine b4 I noticed any worn condition. I will try the heater hose set-up and let ya'll know how it works. Who knows--maybe I will start a new company called "Bushthis"---LOL.

I replaced my upper and lower bushings on my '98 Standard with Gary Eckermann's.  Even though Gary says the lowers are normally OK on Valks, mine were pretty wallered out.

The ride has vastly improved...feels way more solid.

There are lots of make-do solutions that will work. Heater hose, UHMW, plastic bushings, etc.
None have any real process provided to account for compression/rebound of the suspension. The product I make has been engineered to work in the application involved.
I have worked with a number of riders that have experienced rapid wear. We have isolated their suspension problems. If the urethane part wear, there is something more wrong. It is a very durable product.

Well I got my valk back together today--new tires,left rear bearing/seal,o-rings grease--all that stuff. I did put in the heater hose discissed last week in this post. Went on and wrenched up real nice on the shocks. L :cooldude:ooks like it will work just fine. If u try it,use 5/8 i.d. heater hose(orange) and cut to 7/8" long, this will compress it just enough to fill both sides on the upper shock mount. Man that 200 Brig. on the back looks great!!! I'll keep u posted on the shocks.

Glad I ordered when I did. Got bushing for both shocks to do U/L ends along with the dampers.
New back tire to boot and all is good. Thanks gary.

TP    The dampers last I remember were one of those off the menu things. This is my 2nd set of dampers from him. New bushings U/L, dampers and a new back tire = new ride again even with 160000 miles on her.
