OEM saddlebag brackets (mounts) ?

Anyone have the dimensions of the OEM brackets? I'm using easy brackets right now. Was wondering if these would support better?

Are you talking about the ones for leather bags?

If you are talking about hardbags, the oem brackets provide the best support but may not work for the bags that you have.  As you can see measuring dimensions is no easy task.



The leather bag supports are a different animal altogether.

Yep, the OEM brackets for the OEM leather bags. They have a piece that comes underneath them to support the bags.

I've got a couple sets of them.  One set is currently in use and mounted on the bike (with the OEM leather bags) and the other set of mounts is sitting on a self in the garage.  I'm planning on using the extra set to mount a pair of the Mustang (w/studs) saddlebags on them.  Don't know yet (won't know for sure untill I actually get the Mustangs), but I'll probably end up cutting off the lower support section (the part that sits under the bag) in order to mount the Mustangs.  The Mustang bag is alot taller than the OEM leather bag.  The mounts mount to the bike rock solid.  They don't give and there's no flex in them....at all.  Should make for a rock solid mount for some hard bags I'd think.

Was wondering how close does the bottom support comes to the exhaust. I have the Mustang bags on my bike right now with the easy brackets and was looking for better support. I'm on the ship at present, but might try and get me a set if I don't have to cut the bottom off.

I talked with him while I was home and he thinks they are the regular saddlebag support like the aftermarket style.

The bottom of the support sits 2 5/16" from the top of the pipe.  It's alot of room.  The OEM hard bags sit alot lower and are alot closer to the pipe than that.  





According to Mustang's site, the bags are 15" tall.  I don't see how they can be mounted without cutting off that lower support and still get them to look right.  I think they'd sit too tall on the bike if the lower support is left in place.  They might even interfere with the pilion/rear seat since the OEM leather bag mounts sit alot closer/tucked in more to the rear fender than the EasyBrackets allow.  There are still four mounting points per bag on each mount.....and with the mounts being rock solid, IMHO, I think that there's plenty of support for the bag without that lower support being there.  







Which ever way you go, good luck with your install.......and please post some pics when you get done.

Great info. Mine is thew Blue and Cream you have pictured. Your pictures answered my questions. Thinhing about ordering some of the brackets and extend the bottom piece so the support will still be there. Then if the top mounts will be cut off and welded to the bottom of the bar instead of the top. That should work. Once I start the project I'll take some pictures. Thanks again for the pictures.
