K & N air filter

I've been told repeatedly the best improvement for a Valk is a K & N air filter.  Does anybody know where to get one for less than $78 bucks including shipping?

That's the lowest cost I've ever found or heard of. I say go for it, you'll never buy another air filter.

that k & n air filter really is the only way to go.  you will appreciate it in the long run, especially since you won't be buying anymore air filters.

Anymore, whatever you are looking for, Amazon is worth a check.... if they have it, you rarely can find anything cheaper.

They list the GL1500C for 1997-03. I assume the interstate uses the same filter, but does anyone know for sure?

i know there are guys out there that will try to talk you out of buying a K&N, but, unless you plan on buying a life time suply of filters for a cycle that is no longer made, then you better get one that will last as long as the valk.

in a worst case scenario, you can sell the K&N on ebay for more then you bought it for new, ten years from now!!  (someone will buy it!!)

a stock air filter last much longer than 12k miles and actually filters the air better with the higher miles on it.
A K&N lets in lots of dirt.

A guy by the name of Spicer did some extensive testing of pickup truck air filters a few years ago. The results were posted on the DieselPlace web forum.
The K&N allowed many times more dirt as a stock filter. It also presented less restriction to airflow.
More dirt=more engine wear; more air flow=more power(maybe). Your choice.
I was running a K&N filter in my Duramax at the time I read the results of Spicer's testing. I took it out.
In fact it's available cheap if anyone wants it. It fits a 2004 Duramax diesel, maybe other years.

K&N with the pre filter flows about the same as a stock filter. I have one on my '97 & noticed no performance increase {wasn't looking for that anyways} benefit is now I have a lifetime filter. 
I agree with the findings of those who say the K&N {w/o prefilter} lets in more air & dirt, that's a no brainer. I also agree that I would not use a K&N on a turbocharged engine of any sort. A good oversized paper filter is the way to go for more air flow in turbo apps.

I took my stock filter out after 57k. I couldn't believe how dirty it was. Everything was spotless on the other side. I took a high powered blower to it and vacuum. It looked good. I put it back on and my fuel milage went from 33 to 37+ miles per gallon at left lane interstate speeds. I may buy a new one and raise the front of my tank this weekend.

u can't see what went down the intake tract.

no rejetting nessesary and be sure to keep the pre filter in there.

oil analisis ??? if you are getting dirt in your oil that is coming through your carbs, you got much bigger problems than an air cleaner.

i gotta think this. if K&N filters were eating up engines, K&N would have a potload of lawsuits against them. they aren't stupid and have been around for more years than me, so i figure they must know what they are doing. i drove race cars for years, all with very high dollar engines, and every one came from the builder with a K&N filter in the box.

I think ill stick with the original and thanks for the info about the duramax k & n. I'm constantly cleaning the dirt out of the filter area they may get sucked into the turbo

you definately do not want a k&n in a 2007.5 and up Duramax, first they will void your warranty if they find it when an issue comes up and can relate it & It messes with things by letting in "oily" air.

Not as fact, but I would doubt it because the GW1500 only has 2 intakes. There's no way [OK I doubt there is] the boxes are the same dimension. It would make no sense to my senseless mind.
