What VTX Fender is this?

I want to mod or replace my rear fender.  I liked the look this guy did.  I emailed him and he said it was a VTX fender.  Anybody recognize it?  He also said it was fairly easy to make work, any opinions on that as well?

That is a VTX 1800 F rear fender. Just need the fender and inner support, then drill holes in both to match up with bolt holes on the Valk's fender rails. If you ever carry a passenger you'd have to have a rear seat made. You'd prolly be able to trim up an F rear seat pan (they're plastic), add and shape foam, and cover.  No worries if you don't ever ride with a passenger. Technically you don't even need the inner fender support, but if you ever wanted to add a solo rack or carry any cargo it'd prolly be better to have it. Good luck.

I really liked the look of that bike also.  Didn't see an F fender on ebay.  The ones that are on there were sort of high.  The VTX C (I think) fender on the front completes the look.

If you only ride solo, just need the fender and support. Drill holes in the fender and support to match the holes on the Valk fender rails. Snip the connector off of the Valkyrie fender and solder to the harness on the F fender.

You can use C-clamps to hold the fender to mark where to drill. The fender may be a little to narrow or too wide to fit between the Valk fender rails, so you might have to manipulate it a bit... From the looks of the pic it's a pretty close match width wise.

Potential problems that I can think of:

The angle of the shocks on the VTX is probably a little different than the Valk, so don't expect it to match up perfect, but it looks pretty damn close from the pics. The bottom of the front of the fender (under the seat, forward of the shocks) may need to be trimmed for clearance, but there's no way to know until you mock up the fender. On my I/S, the rear of the driver seat is held down by a tab on the fender. I'm not sure how the standard seats mount (prolly the same way), but you may need to have a tab welded to the new fender to accept the mount on the Valkyrie seat. You could always remove the bracket from the Valkyrie seat and use a couple suction cups... If you ever ride with a passenger you'll have to get creative with rear seat options. Might be able to use an F rear seat pan and go from there, or maybe get with a company like Mean City Cycles and see if they could help you out in that area. Complete F fenders are usually a little on the expensive side. Good luck with your project if you decide to go for it.

Thanks Chris.  What do you think would be involved to make this fender fit?  Same type of stuff?  How bout the back seat?

I think that fender will be more of a problem than the F fender. The digger is fiberglass  That fender is for a 240/250 rear... Some wide tire fenders for the VTX require cutting the ears off the back of the frame and grinding the rear peg mounts, so who knows what would be required to put a fat VTX fender on a Valk.  You'd also have to have custom fender struts made... There is/was a digger fender made for the VTX with a 200/210 rear tire, but they're not made any more. I think that if you want that look a steel F fender is the way to go. Just my $.02.

Can't really help ya with the rear seat. A rear Valk seat won't fit, and even if you fab up a bracket to mount it, it wouldn't sit on the fender right. I think getting a rear F seat and working from there would be a good start. You could always just get a p-pad and some suction cups for when you have to have a passenger... Good luck.

As other people have mentioned, getting a passenger seat to work with the F model rear fender will probably be quite a challenge.  

I would advise that you look for a C model fender.  It is shaped basically the same, except it does not have the "bump" on top of the fender right behind the solo seat.  It would be a lot easier to fab a rear seat to the fender if it is smooth.

I think the rear seat on a VTX is longer than one on the Valkyrie.  I re-did my VTX Corbin rear seat (R-S model though, not C) to fit on the Valkyrie.  I had to shorten it quite a bit.  I'm not that handy when it comes to upholstery, but I just pulled the leather cover off it and cut down the pan and reshaped the foam to match.  It's not perfect, but the spots that are not perfect I hid on the underside of the seat.

The VTX front fender change has been done many times. I didn't do any searches for the process, but I'll bet if you did so you'll find the complete lay-out of what has to be done. I've seen a spread in the Tech board some time ago on what's involved.

I like the Road Glide faring you have.  That had to be quite a bit of work.  I found a VTX Digger standard rear fender for sale but would that present similar problems like the other one?  I already have the VTX front fender on and mounted.  Just working on the back.

I'm not familiar with the Digger rear fender, but it's probably fiberglass.  Fiberglass is probably fine, but I prefer working with a steel fender, especially if I'm mounting a seat to it.  If you look around, you can probably find a C model fender.  Pinwall?

Thanks for the prop's on the Road Glide fairing.  Yah, it was lots of work, but I always want something "different".
