Noticed about 3/8" of the tires bead extends past the edge of the rim all the way around on both sides.  Tech said he used a lot of bead lock, but wanted to bring my attention to it.

Goodyear Triple Tread.  Normal?

Valker

Stupid question (my normal) but are you sure it's a 16" tire? They are available in lots of sizes.

I took my car to a Sears one time to have tires mounted.  When I got back the kid said he could not get them on the rims.  I looked and he was trying to put 14" tires on my 15" rims.

G-Man

It's a 16" tire.  If you look at the letter "L" and imagine that the wheel is the verticle part of the "L".  The 1/4" to 3/8" I'm referring to would be the horizontal part of the "L".  What concerns me is how much of the verticle part of the "L" is inside of the wheel.

Need a photo !!!!!!! you "L" don't get it ?

Daniel Meyer

Yeah, need a photo. The bead won't show if the tire is the right size. I'd guess your tech may not know what he's looking out or he's trying to alarm you.

The bead mating area on the rim is identical to the 16" mag wheels on the wife's car.

What is the tire size on the tire.   Not what you ordered from them, but the actual size off of the tire.

Sounds like it might be an off breed size.

The TT has a substantial standout immediately from the rim. Many modern tires do to protect the rim from curbs and such...

Thank you Dan!!!  You figured out my concern.  Yes, the wheel looks like it sits in about 1/4" or a little more.

What is the width of our rear wheel?  According to the GoodYear site, the tire is approved for a wheel width of 5.5" to 7.5".

I believe he is referring to the step out. After mounting my TT to rim, it looked like it was bent inwards a little, and was very deeply off set. Would make sense that there is about 1/4" rim outside of the rim of the wheel.

Daniel is spot-on. That lip or stand out is the rim protector for car rims. See pic. lip is more visible here at the 2-3 o'clock position.

However, the 5" rim width he mentioned is more like the front rim, the rear rim is somewhere around 7". Note 2" wide blue tape over the inside of my air valve.

You'll be fine...I had the same question/doubt the first time I mounted my GY TT

Thank you, Brother, I really was concerned.  The tech made me sign a waiver and everything.

Here is a pic of my thingy:

Daniel Meyer

Yeah, that's not the bead. Perfectly normal for an assurance TT, and most of the yokahomas I've seen.

Tech should have looked closer at the tire before he installed it.
